The Mind Reader by Edward Bagshawe

Print and Perform.

One of the advantages of the following effect lies in its absurd simplicity of operation. Quite a change from some of the "mentally selected" card effects you may have run across.

Briefly, the effect can be stated as follows. A sealed envelope is first given into the keeping of a member of the audience. Two printed slips of paper (ready to print for you), each bearing the names of cards, are given to a second spectator, who is asked to examine them and note that the names of all the fifty-two cards have been listed upon them. The spectator mentally selects one of the names. The performer takes a shuffled pack of cards and, appearing to read the assistant's mind, alters the positions of the cards, saying that he has placed the mentally chosen one at a certain number. The pack is now given to the assistant, and the performer does not touch it again. In due course, the sealed envelope is opened and a slip of paper, bearing the number 32, is removed. The assistant, acting under the performer's directions, counts down in the pack and when he arrives at the number 32, this card is shown and is found to be the mentally selected one.

Points to ponder

  • The card is really selected only mentally by the spectator. He can choose any of the 52 cards.
  • Absolutely no force.
  • No memory work.
  • Super easy to do.
  • Complete with the two necessary lists ready to print with your printer.

Try this ....you made an error and the trick is awesome. I have looked into this and the previous reviewer can be forgiven for his original comment as the way the effect is written can be misinterpreted and garner the wrong results! You need to reread the final Working comment from the narrator which can be summarised as starting the count from the number alongside their mentally selected card.... So if they have chosen for example card number 7 and that is Right if hearts then that's the number that begins the count all the way through to your predicted number. It works perfectly.....make sure you arrange the cards as stated as well!

Thanks Dave

As described, the effect doesn't work. Note that the ad illustration has the number 28 written on the prediction slip, yet the ad copy states 32. No matter how you count the cards, the mentally selected card doesn't appear at the number 32 or 28.
