(Benny) Ben Harris
Epic Flight by (Benny) Ben Harris

The odd scientific principle discovered by Harris in 1980 makes an amazing coin transposition possible!

Two coins are displayed. One is marked with a large cross with a permanent marker and a spectator confirms that the cross will not rub off the coin. In full view, the marked coin and the plain coin transpose through the back of a spectator’s own hand.

Fully examinable, easy to do. The scientific principle makes it all work.

  • examinable
  • use any currency
  • easy to perform
  • carry it everywhere

Al Koran
New Jackpot Coins by Al Koran

Routine by Harry Stanley, updated by Ken de Courcy, edited by Barry Laymond.

This was one of Al Koran's popular routines, and a hit on T.V. and during his cabaret and stage performances. It is baffling yet easy to do and, more important, it employs apparatus with immediate appeal to everyone ... money! Al worked the effect continuously and this is the professional presentation he used. The apparatus consists of cloth bag looking like those used by banks and several coins. The effect develops in three stages as follows:

1) A spectator reaches into the bag of money and grabs any number of coins. Miraculously you...

Alan Rorrison
Pulled by Alan Rorrison

The Linking Rings effect is a classic of magic and for good reason: a direct and simple method coupled with the visual aspect of the props have made this a strong hold in most magicians' working arsenals.

So what is wrong with the original that a new one needs to be brought forth? Well, here are a few small points to take into consideration:

  • The old rings are too big for any real world worker
  • They are too expensive in most cases
  • Large rings simply look like a magic prop
  • The routine rarely has any motivation
  • People simply get bored of the routine
Pulled solves all these points and...

Alan Rorrison
In Flight by Alan Rorrison

This is a neat card and coin to pocket effect.

Have a spectator grab a coin and sign it on both sides. You vanish it, or as Alan likes to say 'make it invisible'. Have a spectator select a card, and also the card vanishes while rubbing it on the leg.

Both card and coin magically traveled to your pocket. However, the unbelievable miracle is that the signed coin is actually inside the spectator selected card. The card has to be peeled open like an in-flight envelope to get to the coin.

Alan teaches every detail. A unique and unforgettable miracle.

Alan Rorrison
Metal Morphasis by Alan Rorrison

Have a spectator take out a coin and have him sign it. Show an empty card case and drop the signed coin into it. The card case is closed and put on the spectators stretched out hand. Then you bring out a bottle cap or take one that is lying around and have it signed as well. The bottle cap is lying on the table. You take the card case held on the tips of your fingers - to make clear that no sleight of hand is possible - and tap the bottle cap. The bottle cap instantaneously transforms into the signed coin.

The transformation is incredibly visual and happens right in front of the spectators...

Alan Rorrison
The Mint by Alan Rorrison

This is a really clever visual effect. I love it.

Present a 'mint sheet' (a piece of aluminum foil). Borrow a coin and press the coin into the mint sheet. The impression looks just like the coin. But of course it is just an impression not a real coin - or is it? Hand the coin with which you created the impression back to the spectator. You only have the aluminum foil with the coin impression. With your thumb you squeeze and pull the impression of the mint sheet and create a new coin. The impression has transformed into a real coin. You do the same with the other side of the coin to 'mint'...

Aldo Colombini
Ping Pong Routine by Aldo Colombini

A great routine with coins in different phases. The performer holding a Chinese coin and a silver one separately in each hand, joins them together in one hand. The Chinese coin is then placed in a small box whilst the silver coin remains in the hand holding a chopstick. The Chinese coin, as by magic, leaves the box and becomes impaled on the stick, while the silver coin is found in the box. The Chinese coin penetrates the stick, while each end is held by a spectator, and becomes free. Both the coins held again in the hand change places, penetrating the fold of a handkerchief. The routine is...

Ken Brooke's Okito Box Routine by Aldo Colombini

This is probably the best routine ever created for the Okito Box. In the hands of the legendary Ken Brooke, this routine was a masterpiece. You will study the Master Move, the best way to secretly turn over the box. Once mastered, you will be introduced to a four-phase entertaining routine with simple props.

The effect, briefly is: A coin is in the box which is placed on top of a cardbox. The coin penetrates the cardbox. The effect is repeated. Then the coin disappears and reappears inside the box. Finally, the coin penetrates the hand of the performer! If wanted, everything can be examined. Detailed...

Alexander de Cova
Coinvelope by Alexander de Cova
"This is new to me. I have not seen anything like it. Your touches make it a miracle vanish. Very clean - very natural. Excellent." - Michael Close

"What a brilliantly simple, devious and clever idea! It is so deceptive, I love it!" - Nick Einhorn

Coinvelope is Alexander de Cova's latest creation. With this super simple (and therefore reliable) gimmick envelope you can vanish a borrowed, marked coin and have it reappear anywhere. The vanish is absolutely convincing and easy to do. The diabolical envelope does most of the work.

The envelope can be constructed literally within seconds, without using...

Alexander de Cova
Matrix Opener by Alexander de Cova

A clever gimmick that allows one to secretly introduce four coins singly from a deck of cards.

Al Schneider's Matrix is a classic. It didn't take long for magicians to invent ways to produce the four coins from the deck. Notable contributions stem from Ray Mertz, Don England, Paul Harris, Nick Einhorn, Michael Broden and others.

With this humble contribution, Alexander de Cova joins the row and offers a version to produce the coins singly from the deck in the course of an Ace cutting routine.

Of course, there are many variations and handlings possible with this gimmick. Play around and find your...

An impromptu piece of close-up mentalism that uses no gimmicks in which you demonstrate clairvoyance (or mind-reading), then your participant does - and then you finally show that you had predicted everything!

The effect: You and your participant each have a collection of coins before you on a table. You and she take turns secretly flipping over your own coins until she is completely satisfied that neither of you could possibly know the heads-tails orientation of the other’s coins. Andrew Galloway
The Ramsay Legend by Andrew Galloway

John Ramsay was known for his clever use of misdirection. Probably his most famous quote is

"I work alone, but I have an invisible assistant—Miss Direction."—John Ramsay

His use of misdirection was so good that he often badly fooled his fellow magicians. Ramsay was a sleight-of-hand master with coins and thimbles, but worked essentially with all objects including cards, ropes and cups and balls. Lots of clear line drawings by Ralph O. Evans.

Brick Tilley
Morritt Purse Swindle by Brick Tilley

Charles Morritt was able to hold the entire theatre audience spellbound with what was, in essence, a pocket trick. After inviting two members of the audience onstage he would allow them to figuratively change places, thus transcending and descending their social classes using only two purses and four coins. Two copper coins, held by the "workingman", and two gold coins, held by the "uppercrust", change places while being held in purses by each witness. This updated version replaces much of the skill required by substituting gimmicks that can easily be made at home, while retaining the powerful...
