Bertram Adams
(1885 - ~1960s)
Betram Ernest Adams was an American inventor, engineer, photographer, and magician. He lived in Brookline, MA, and graduated from MIT in 1915. He served as president of the Society of American Magicians in 1932 and 1933. In magic, he is most known for his Adamathica card trick (1921), which is an application of Gergonne's Pile Problem. Adams sold a part of his library relating to magic (600 volumes) to the Boston Public Library.
Adams billed himself as "New England's busiest magician." His trick called "The Krazy Kode" can be found in the April 1937 issue of Jinx (#31).
One of his inventions was a slide rule for fire fighters where they could quickly determine nozzle pressure, gallons of water flowing through the nozzle per minute, and the effective reach of the stream emerging from a fire hose given the pump pressure, hose length, and nozzle size. It was called the Wizard Fire Stream Calculator.
