Jack Lamonte
(9 May 1920 - 1996)
John Frederick J. "Jack" Lamonte, was a professional magician, illustrator and inventor. He got his start in magic with a three-penny book of magic, seeing the Great Carmo, and meeting an old-time juggler and card manipulator who kept a small novelty shop in North London.
In September 1940 Jack joined the Royal Navy. During his six years in the Navy he performed magic, including over 200 shows in Ceylon [Sri Lanka]. In 1947 he started to do illustration work for the Magic Wand (his last article was in March of 1956) while keeping up a busy performing schedule. He wrote columns called "Limelight" and "Practical Publicity" for Wizard Magazine and then became the editor from January, 1954, to July, 1956. He wrote "Publicity Pieces", a series for the Linking Ring from 1950 to 1952. He was a member of the British Ring and The Magic Circle. He mainly did sleight-of-hand in a humorous style. He co-authored, with Al Koran, Mastered Amazement (1947) and wrote Stunts with Stage Money (1948).
He dropped from sight in the magic community, and by 1962 Robert Lund was asking in Abracadabra what ever happened to him. He died in 1996.
