Russell T. Barnhart
(Chicago, IL: August 20th, 1926 - Jamaica, NY: September 14th, 2003) Amateur card worker and gambling historian. He was a regular at the Round Table in Chicago until he moved to New York City. He served two years in the Navy, joined Andover, and majored in English at Princeton. He was also fluent in French and Spanish. Barnhart was honored by the Institute of Gaming and Commercial Gambling at the University of Nevada in Reno, to which he donated his gambling library.
Wrote Two Second Deals (1974, 14pp), The Master Palm (1975), Casino Gambling (1977, 221pp), and Gamblers of Yesteryear (1983). Translated Eugene Villiod's La màchine voler (1905) as The Stealing Machine (1977, 221pp), his Comment on nous vole au jeu! (1909) as How They Cheat You at Cards (1979, 189pp), and another book of his, which was translated as Crooks, Con Men, and Cheats (1980, 131pp). Articles or tricks in Genii and Onyx.
