A Case For Cards by Ken de Courcy

Customer rank: +1

From the FOREWORD
In this short thesis I'm going to discuss a fairly well-known plot ... "The Card in the Card-case". If you think about it, there's more 'logic' in this effect than in, for example, "The Card in Matchbox"; the card-case is already there because the cards were in it. Unless you smoke while performing, there is little reason for introducing a matchbox into the equation.

"The Card in Wallet" is a good, well-tried effect, but I submit the "Card in Card-case" is more "impossible" because it's in view all the time. This last point, obviously, creates difficulties which I'll try to overcome, but the great strength of this trick lies in its (apparent) impromptu nature.

In this very interesting manuscript Ken de Courcy details several methods (and different effects) for "The card in the card case" plot.

What you will find:

  • The Card In The Card-Case
  • The Miscall Principle
  • The Duplicate
  • Only A Little Trick
  • Sole Survivors
  • Cut-Up (A card is selected and returned to the pack which is then replaced in the card-case together with a "Magic Razor Blade". When the card-case is opened it contains the razor blade, lots of pieces of sliced-up cards and just one whole card, the one that was chosen. Ken added a visible feature. The card box on the table shakes itself to cut the cards!)
  • Card-Case Riser (The card rise from the case stuck to a rope)
  • The Bottomless Version
  • The Jumping Joker (Ken's favorite version.)
As always, practical material that you will use in your shows.
