Diesel Vance performs mind reading for small rooms: private dinners, late bars, the back rooms of parties that have gone on longer than planned. He doesn't do television; he doesn't do stages if he can help it, and he has never once pulled a rabbit out of anything.
He learned the craft from old books, borrowed and second-hand, and still prefers a pencil to an app. His first collection, Old Ghosts, New Tricks, rebuilt four public-domain principles of billet work, book tests and question-and-answer as modern parlour mind reading.
He keeps his own history to himself. As he puts it: "If I told you where I came from, you'd stop wondering. And the wondering is the job."
