Epes Winthrop Sargent

(August 21, 1872 – December 6, 1938)

Epes Winthrop Sargent was an American vaudeville critic and screenwriter who wrote under the pen names Chicot and Chic. He was the first reviewer of Variety magazine in 1905 and is credited with a good part of their success due to his frank reviews. Wrote Technique of the Photoplay (1913, pp. 182), Picture Theater Advertising (1915, pp. 299), and others.

Dr. Saram R. Ellison was a Canadian, born in 1852, but he lived most of his life in New York. He was one of the co-founders of the Society of American Magicians and had the member number 1. He was an avid collector of magic books and apparatus. At one time, he had the most important magic book library, which he donated to the New York Public Library.
