Erik Jan Hanussen
(2nd June 1889 - 24th March 1933)
Born in Vienna, Austria. Stage name of Hermann Steinschneider, son of an Austrian-Jewish comedian. Famous pro pseudo-psychic (telepath, muscle-reader, prophet, etc) since 1918. By 1930 converted to both Protestantism and Nazism. Prominent in Nazi circles until murdered in Berlin under mysterious circumstances now known to have been as a result of a secret arrest and execution by the Nazi SS.
Subject of two dramatic movies: Hanussen (1955) and István Szabó's Hanussen (1988), which won a 1989 Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film.
