George Johnstone

(Boston, Massachusetts: 5th April 1919 - 5th August 2004)

Stage name of George John Johnston since 1943. Raised in Dedham, Massachusetts. Learned at age 9 from Mysto Magic set. Debut assisting Blackstone 1939-42. Thence pro with straight magic until 1949 when switched to comedy magic. George and assistant-wife Betty played the NY Palace in 1951. Obit in Magic Magazine, September 2004.

Wrote booklet Horizons in Magic (1943). Wrote series in Linking Ring on trouping with Blackstone. Wrote column in The Dragon, "Johnstone's Column" in New Tops (since 1961), and "News and Views from the Colonies" column in Magigram (since 1971).
