Leopold Figner
(Mühlhausen, Böhmen: 8th December 1854 - München, Germany: 10th May 1932)
Leopold Figner was Austrian-Hungarian and by profession a clerk. Magic was a sideline for him. He particularly devoted himself to card magic. He got his start seeing a performance of José in Prag, who would become his teacher and mentor. Figner lived most of his life in Munich where he was one of the founding members of the local magic club in 1921. He authored three excellent books on card magic.
