(Northampton, England: 1st September 1946 - 26th August 2022)

Inspired seeing father Eric C. Lewis. Moved with family to California in 1968. Learned at age 21 from Bruce Cervon and others. Invented Sidewalk Shuffle in 1971. House magician at the Magic Cellar 1971-73 where he did close-up. Since then works mainly stand-up in comedy clubs, cabaret, revue shows (Las Vegas and Reno), and cruise ships. 1976 AMA Visiting Magician of the Year. In 1985 as "Shuffler" co-founded (with Steve Burton) the MicroMagicon, the first on-line computer conference of magicians.

A very commercial routine where all is in the delivery and the script. Martin starts with a lovely Ping Pong ball gag. The main effect is the classic push a white handkerchief into your fist and pull out a red one. The method should be clear to everybody even though Martin will explain the basic mechanism and move. What you learn here are the lines and little bits of business that make this a commercial routine.

A Sharper Sharped by Martin Lewis

A wonderful routine only requiring a false count. Martin Lewis uses the Buckle count but several other false counts can be substituted.

The premise is a game of cards with a card sharper. You deal cards and the sharper counts his cards. He has 6 cards. Since you can't play poker with six he removes one card and counts them again still leaving him with six cards. This is repeated two more times always leaving him with six cards. Only the last time he is left with 4 cards. Since you can't play poker with 4 cards he adds a card but still is left with only 4 cards. This continues until in the...
