The Gig Avalanche

Overall customer rating: ★★★

Rating: ★★★★ (Date Added: Monday 22 January, 2024)

The Gig AvalancheI like many of Devin Knight's ideas. This idea for increasing gigs may not be the most stellar, but it is something I had not thought about and should definitely work, in the short run. It is easy to do even for introverted people, and doesn't involve creepy sales pitches. As we become more and more virtual, and move away from life as we knew it, it may not work as well in the future as it did in the past. I have not tried it but may do so. In any case, I doubt many people have thought of this marketing approach, and recommend the ebook at this price point. It may not work in every jurisdiction, however. In most locations, it should work, though.

100 Tips and Gags

100 Tips and GagsVery disappointing, I would not see myself using any of these. Many are mean-spirited and not so funny. Generally I love anything U.F. Grant, I think he is brilliant, and have fooled many magicians with some of his ideas. However, in this particular case, I would not recommend this booklet.

The Amateur Magician's Handbook

Overall customer rating: ★★★★★

Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Friday 12 July, 2013)

The Amateur Magician's HandbookOne of the best books on magic, the only issue I have is with the title: the target audience is not limited to amateurs. If I were dictator of the universe, I would make it required reading for any type of entertainer, especially magicians and mentalists.

Covered within are sleight of hand magic versus "head magic" (where ingenious methods not involving sleight of hand are used). There is emphasis on cards, coins, the usual, but what differentiates this from other books on magic is how clearly the psychology of magic is explained. You could tell the author was very sharp, his thought process was very thorough, and his writing style was extremely clear and to the point.
