Signor Blitz
(Deal, England: 21st June 1810 - 28th January 1877)
Stage name of Antoni van Zandt, aka "Signor Blitz of Moravia", which he stole from another performer.
(The first Signor Blitz of Moravia flourished in Germany during the 1820s. He advertised himself as a student and assistant of Philadelphia. Pro stage magic in British Isles, assisted by his two sons. Played the Coburg Theatre, London, 1826.)
Son of a merchant. Pro vent and magus since 1825. Pet effects: Plate Spinning (by 1830) and Bullet Catching (by 1830). Moved in 1835 to USA where he became a top-line star until retiring in Philadelphia in 1860. Father of Harry "Haba Haba" Blitz. Autobiography is Fifty Years in the Magic Circle (1871, 432pp).
