EFFECT #1: A CAN OF DICE
A 'predicted card at number' effect using two regular dice.
The performer reflects on how we like to believe we're in control of our choices - only to suggest that control itself may be an illusion.
He puts a deck of cards in its case on the table and gives a pair of dice to a spectator. The spectator rolls the dice to generate two numbers in two different ways. The two numbers are added together and their total is - for example - 23.
The performer now removes the deck from its case and spreads it from one end to the other. The only odd-backed card is placed on the table as a prediction. He then deals down to the 23rd card, which is the Jack of Spades. The prediction is revealed - it is also the Jack of Spades.
Only two dice, one deck, and one prediction. No gimmick. No duplicates. The spectator may deal the cards himself. Effortless. Instant reset.
EFFECT #2: BOX TEST
A 'book test' effect using a book, some dice, and a box.
A spectator is invited to take part in a mysterious experiment. He is given no information about its purpose, ensuring that every decision is made without influence.
First, the performer removes three dice from a medium-sized black box. The spectator chooses either two or three of them and rolls them on the table. He may even switch the position of the dice and/or turn each one however he likes to create a different outcome. From this, two numbers are generated in two different ways and added together. Their total is - for example - 165.
The performer then lifts the box lid and lets the spectator take out the book left inside - for example, Herman Melville's Moby Dick. While the performer is looking away, the spectator turns to page 165 and mentally focuses on the first words of the page.
After a moment of concentration, the performer slowly reveals the words the spectator is looking at.
Effortless. Instant reset. Works in any language. It can be any book, provided it is 666 pages or longer.
