Lubor Fiedler Notebooks by Lubor Fiedler

This is a prepublication offer. The download will become available no later than October 2026.

This is the complete set of four Lubor Fiedler notebooks, almost 1000 pages. Lubor started them in 1976, 1981, 1987, and 2010, respectively.

One of my goals with this publication was to preserve Lubor Fiedler's notebooks in their original form, because I am certain they will be studied for generations to come. No single person should interpret Lubor's thoughts. Everybody should be able to draw their own conclusions and find and take what is most useful to them. That is why every page has been reproduced as a facsimile, except for blank pages, even though few will be able to read Lubor's notebooks directly because he wrote in a mix of Czech, German, and a bit of English. On the left side of each spread, you will find the facsimile, and on the right side, the translation.

This is also part of the reason why these notebooks will only be released in digital form. This makes it possible to make corrections and distribute these corrections free of charge to customers. If you spot any typos or errors, please email me. The other reason is that 2000 printed pages would strain the purse of even the most dedicated Lubor Fiedler aficionado.

A big thank you goes to František Kitzberger, who transcribed and translated all the parts written in Czech, which was the majority of the material. I translated the remaining pieces written in German. A thank you also to Ondrej Psenicka, multiple Fool-Us winner, who connected me with František and helped guide the translation along. Another thank you goes to Werner Liebig, longtime confidant and friend of Lubor Fiedler, who secured the notebooks and who sold them to me, including two suitcases of additional material and notes that were found in Lubor's apartment after his death.

Having spent many months with these notebooks, allow me to give you some pointers on how to study them. First and foremost, give yourself time to study them. Some things will not make sense because they are incomplete, partial ideas, or otherwise cryptic statements. This is to be expected with notebooks that were never meant to be read by anybody other than Lubor himself. To get the most out of these notebooks, you will need time to reflect and think about what you have read. As the saying goes, the more you put in, the more you will get out.

The majority of the material is ideas, some of which you will recognize from his marketed effects, and some will be entirely new to you. Mixed into this broth of ideas is contact information for people and companies with whom Lubor did business. You will also find financial numbers where Lubor is recording sales and income to figure out what works best for him.

You will learn that Lubor had an analytic and very observant mind. He analyzed everything. He routinely did several prototypes or versions of one trick idea or chemical recipe to figure out the best version. He revisited ideas multiple times.

Reading these notebooks is like stepping into Lubor's brain. When you immerse yourself in these notebooks, you will start to think a bit like Lubor. You will see the world around you differently. It is this immersion that I warmly recommend to you. This is not light reading. It will potentially be the hardest reading you will ever do inside a magic book. But if you accept the challenge and dive deep, you will thank me for it later.
