How a page is forced during a book test is the most important part of the test. Unfortunately, most page forces are sadly lacking. Most appear contrived. Dice are rolled to determine page numbers, playing cards are used or math is used to determine a random number. This not what a real mind reader would do.

Other methods involve mis-calling numbers. If the audience realizes that the mentalist knows the page number, then the effect has dropped a few levels. Many people have read in books about secret cue lists and realize if the mentalist knows the page number, then he may have memorized the first word on each page. This is possible, if you have a good memory system. Such systems are available on the magic market.

Devin Knight wanted to develop the cleanest way possible to force a page so it did not appear contrived. To the audience, he never knew the page number.

Devin developed a force using a regular book that has NOT been gimmicked and has NO SHORT PAGES! The performer picks up a book and turns his head away and riffles the pages. A person says stop and the book is opened to that page and handed to him, while the performer still looks away. The audience realizes there was no chance of the performer seeing the page number or contents on the page.

Yet, the page has been forced and the performer knows the contents of the page or has predicted some part of it. The page number is never called out or told to the performer.

There are no secret peeks or mirrors used. Totally impromptu. It can be done on the fly with any book. Remember, there are no short pages or playing cards secretly inserted in the book. Book can be borrowed and examined.

Positively the cleanest page force every developed and used by leading professionals. Complete with detailed photos showing every nuance of this force.

[Note: If you own Devin's Double Coincidence, then you already know this force and don't need this PDF.]

I have been struggling for a while with how to make a book riffle force look natural - I simply couldn't get a clear picture in my head of how to make it look natural, to the point that I'd almost given up. But after 10 minutes of reading this, I have a newfound confidence that it can be done seamlessly and beautifully and am starting my practice anew with this technique. A riffle page force is such a useful tool; if you don't have one in your arsenal, I think this is the one to learn. If you already have one that you use happily and confidently, you probably don't need this - but if you check it out, it might end up replacing your current standard.

I have always wanted to learn a way to force a page from an ordinary book by riffling the pages and having the participant call: “Stop!” All of the methods I had tried either looked contrived, or were not what a real mindreader would do, like throw dice to get a page number. Then I read Devin Knight’s “The Ultimate Page Force “ and finally found what I had been searching for. This is easy, (although like good magic, practice in front of a mirror is needed), and it looks natural, does not appear contrived, and looks like what a real mindreader would do. The excellent photographs that illustrate the step-by-step performance of the method are priceless, and complement the clarity of his explanation. Devin Knight has given a true Utility that opens the door to the performance of many baffling and entertaining effects.
