I recently read a short review of this great book, and revisited it. I read it several times long ago, but this time through I felt compelled to mention how good it really is. I performed professionally for about 16 years, but on and off many more. Even when not performing, I am involved with writing about the art. The main reason I've taken a new interest is the inclusion of billiard ball magic explained in a wonderful way. While the other items are covered with interesting writings, the work on billiard balls interested me the most because it is probably my favorite branch of magic. While I often mention Gaultier and Hull in regard to B. Balls, I must remember to include this book in the group to study if fascinated by this field. The price is surprisingly low in this downloadable version.

This e-version's photos are far superior to the ones in the Dover print edition. And the text is much more readable in this e-version.

Good, old-fashioned effects ... but the emphasis is on the historical. Very, very entertaining, however!

One of the richest mine of mental magic/mentalism, still in use. Copperfield's Graffiti Wall? The principle is in here.
By focusing on principles instead of doing your thinking for you, it opens up the possibilities of making YOUR version of any effect being different from anyone else's - and uniquely your own.

I really enjoy mining through old magic books to find Gems and this book is a real delight. There are many principles within this old book used in modern magic today which are a joy to discover and fuel your creativity to adapt them to your own magic and mentalism.
Very often when I am playing with an idea and need a solution to make the effect work I will quite often find the answer lies in adapting principles already firmly established.
Yes a lot of the effects are to be used with confidents and stooges but not all! However read between the lines ...discover those gems and adapt them to fit your modern audience. Everything old is new! This book is a minefield .....enjoy.

The majority of effects in this book are for 2 people working together. The rest use gimmicks/apparatus that are very outdated. I would not recommend it at all, even for it's cheap price.

You know when they say: old gems? you got them all in here. These are the controls you will use!
Very advanced moves in here though. You got to have to experiance with a deck of cards. I finished Royal Road, and I can uderstand Arthur's explinations easily! I didn'n think I'm a book learner!
Altough explinations are good, some moves are hard, REALLY hard. Needs a practice.
For 5 Bucks? You cant beat that. Highly recommended
