Ferry Gerats

(Amsterdam, Netherlands: 2nd of March 1950 - )

Seeing a magician at the age of 8 years, he immediately fell in love with magic. In his twenties he started to participate in magical competitions and won several prizes. Not having the idea that magic ever would become his profession, he studied accountancy. Several years he gave lessons at bookkeeping and commercial arithmetic. After being awarded a 3d prize for Comedy Magic at the FISM of 1979 he put his energy into becoming a professional magician, which he did in 1983. Since then performing magic has been his livelihood. His professional repertoire consists mainly of close up magic and trade shows. Most of his performances are in the Netherlands, however professional engagements made him also travel to Belgium, Germany, France, England, Spain, Australia and Turkey.

He is interested in all kinds of magic, like mentalism, close up, stand up and comedy magic, but has a particular love for card magic.

The Ferry Gerats Haunted Deck by Ferry Gerats

Effect: For the revelation of a chosen card, the deck cuts itself. The upper part of the deck moves slowly and mysteriously sidewards at the location of the chosen card.

A serious advantage of this version is that it can be done with a borrowed deck. Another bonus is that you can do it at any time during your (card)act. No threads are being used. The method is very practical and incredibly easy. Well, as a matter of fact almost self-working.

"I've always loved the Haunted Deck and have during the years studied and performed many methods. Often there are several preconditions, such as...

The Gerats Principle by Ferry Gerats

The principle facilitates in determining the position and identity of the matching of cards in two decks, which have been randomized by the cutting of each deck. The principle works in conjunction with a memorized stack. A presentation is given where you don't have to commit a stack to memory.

The Gerats Principle enables you to perform the following effect:

Two decks are on the table. After two spectators have each cut one of the decks to their heart's content, the magician is able, without handling the cards, to tell whether there will be a matching of cards (ie: 2♥/2♥)) at a certain...

Orgasm of Astonishment by Ferry Gerats

A very funny version of the collector's plot. 4 Labracadabrador cards find 3 chosen cards instantly.

A version of Roy Walton's collector's plot, which has been in my repertoire for 25 years now and has made a lot of audiences happy. As the hilarious text makes everyone laugh out loud, the thought crossed my mind to call it: "The Funniest Collectors in the World". However because of the awe-inspiring moment that is felt by everyone at the climax when the three chosen cards appear between the collector cards it is more appropriate to call it: Orgasm of Astonishment

So what is Orgasm of...

Divination of Zodiac sign involving a chart with the gems that are in accordance with astrology allocated to the star signs. Uses the branching anagram principle. A version of Bob Farmer's "Fate Accompli".

Effect: You reveal the zodiac-sign of someone you never met.

This is what happens:

A participant is handed a chart with all the zodiac signs and the gemstones which on the basis of astrology are allocated to these signs. While the participant focuses on the name of the gemstone of his sign, the mentalist first discloses some letters of that name and then reveals his zodiac sign.

How?

The Funniest Three Card Monte in the World by Ferry Gerats

Three card monte. Almost no skill. The given presentation guarantees lots of laughs.

Why the funniest?

Well, here is what happens: The routine starts with a funny joke about a three-card-monte player. The joke conjures up a crazy image in the minds of the audience that elicits huge laughter. The next laugh comes from the fact that the spectator who is invited to play the betting-game is asked to keep track of the odd card while it is clear that the odd card has grown in size and protrudes from the other cards. With the 1st round of the betting-game there comes a laugh when it is clear...
