Martin Joyal lives in Montreal, where he makes his living as a software designer. At age eight, he received a magic set from his parents, and a few months later he put on his first show, charging an admission fee of 16¢. This strange amount made it easier to split the profit with his best friend, Marcel, who acted as stage assistant. Over the years, the magic props disappeared one by one, but his gimmicked decks always remained in his magic drawer. Occasionally he would bring one out and perform a few tricks.
Years passed, and one day the need for magic reasserted itself. It was time for his second magic set. This one was more studiously assembled from the ideas of magicians like Ali Bongo, Tom Mullica, Bob Cassidy, Meir Yedid, Jean Hugard, S. W. Erdnase and Dai Vernon. Since then, magic and sharing have played a large part in his life.
