Three cards, chosen at random when “Stop” is called by three different audience members, are revealed by the magician in order of increasing difficulty, until the limit of the unbelievable is nearly reached!
The title refers to a magic experiment with cards, in which the magician, after showing and shuffling a pack of cards, hands it to three members of the audience – chosen to take part – so that they may cut and complete as they please. Once the deck has been returned, the magician begins to deal the cards, stacking them face down until each spectator has called out ‘Stop’ and taken the corresponding card.
After shuffling the deck and ribbon spreading it on the table, he will claim to have memorized the order of all the cards, allowing him to name—one at a time and in various ways—the cards picked by each of the spectators. He’ll have the first spectator insert his card anywhere in the deck and cut it; once he has the deck back in his hands, he’ll quickly locate the added card. Then he will then have the third spectator insert his card as well, and he will take the matching card (of the same suit and color) in its place, allowing the magician — who has remained with his back turned the entire time and merely flips through the deck quickly — to also guess the second spectator’s card, announcing it as the only card missing its matching pair from the beginning. He will finally conclude by drawing the third spectator’s card from the deck, even though that spectator had just shuffled the entire deck again!
Strengths
- The trick requires only a minimal amount of memory (three cards).
- A secret stack is used, one that is unknown even to most magicians.
- You don’t need to know any sleight of hand, but the whole thing will be simple to perform, whilst the method behind it remains a mystery!
