Epes Winthrop Sargent: Is Not S. W. Erdnase by Chris Wasshuber

At one point, a long time ago, Epes Winthrop Sargent was a person of interest in the hunt for S. W. Erdnase. The primary reason for this was his initials E. W. S., which, when reversed, give S. W. E., the same initials as the author of The Expert at the Card Table. He also had connections to magic (writing about Saram R. Ellison, an important collector and personality in the world of conjuring, and The Sphinx) as well as writing an article about a cardsharp.

However, a forensic linguistic analysis quickly revealed that Epes Sargent does not write like Erdnase, and thus, he can't be him.

In this ebook, I have collected information about Epes Sargent and his writings. Most of this research was done around 2016. Since I have recently been contacted by several people with questions regarding Epes Sargent, I have decided to compile and release the information I have gathered on him.

  • Clever Magicians Are The Easiest Of Marks (New York Commercial Advertiser from October 17th, 1903, St. Joseph Gazette from October 26, 1903.)

  • Erdnase?
