Live from the European Close-up Magic Symposium 2012. This routine is taken from Giobbi's professional repertoire. It is his revised and expanded interpretation of a coin assembly created by the famous Japanese magician Shigeo Takagi (from the book Amazing Miracles of Shigeo Takagi, published by Richard Kaufman). Here Roberto has devised a presentation that makes everything more magical. A true act of magic. This is artistic Close-up Magic at its finest.

Live from the European Close-up Magic Symposium 2012. This is a wonderful sleight-less classic card routine that Giobbi has polished to a fine sheen with added psychological subtleties and a logical and meaningful presentation.

A brand new deck of cards, still wrapped in cellophane and sealed, is shuffled by different spectators. 10 cards are selected by a spectator. Roberto then divines each card without touching anything. The last card is revealed with a prediction and a duplicate of the last card is also found in the prediction envelope.

Show a playing card which has random holes in it. This is best done by putting it in front of a light source, such as your phone's screen. In an instant the holes rearrange to something meaningful. Mental Fooler is a great and direct effect. It looks like you really know how to read the spectator's mind. The most important element is that you can do this with a borrowed shuffled deck. Everything is done with the cards face down. You take a borrowed deck of cards and remove a couple of cards. While you are turned away the spectator first shuffles these cards and then only thinks of one of them. A thread that penetrates stuff, your hand, your thumb, a playing card ...

The performer shows a piece of thread that hangs down from his hand. A playing card is held with the other hand behind the thread. With one smooth motion, the thread penetrates the card and is suddenly behind the playing card. It is hard to believe your eyes.

The gimmick is easy to make and there are no bad angles. This looks as good from the back as it does from the front.

A sweet revelation of a selected card. The Magician offers a beverage to the spectator. The spectator selects a card and the magician explains to him that he found out that cold beverages are much better if you add some sugar to them. The reaction of the sugar causes the sugar to form the shape of the selected card at the inside bottom of the glass.

An alternative presentational angle could be that you have caused some of that massive amount of sugar already in the soft drink to fall out at the bottom and form an image of the selected card.
