This ebook covers two Rusduck principles first published in The Cardiste plus other principles from Gilbreath, Hummer & Gene Finnell. The principles are explained in easy-to-understand language, along with problems for the reader to solve with the solutions given and tricks to do. Plus notes from Roy Walton and others.

This was Peter Duffie's first solo book published on the heels of his hugely successful Alternative Card Magic and Contemporary Card Magic.

It includes mostly card routines with a couple of coin routines sprinkled in for good measure. The effects are not difficult to do and can be classified as intermediate. Some routines require palms, half passes and riffle passes.

It is a joy if one can study the early creative output of one of the most accomplished card magician alive today.

You bring out an envelope and remove three $100 casino chips which you place on the table. Now you show three cards: two are black spot cards, and the middle card is a red Queen. Without any moves, you lay the three cards face down on the table. The spectator is invited to bet $100, however, there is a twist to this betting game. If he finds the lady you promise to pay him $100. However, if he picks a spot card, you will double the stake and promise to pay $200 if he finds the lady on a second attempt. You show five Alphabet cards which obviously spell the word L-E-V-E-L. You also show a white card with a perpendicular arrow drawn on one side, and a digonal arrow on the other. This, you say, is a home made spirit level. The way this card points can alter reality!

The cards are spread face down on the table in a straight line to represent the word "LEVEL" — as the cards are level on the table.

You now turn the spirit level so it shows a diagonal arrow. You now push the cards into a diagonal sloping line, so they are no longer LEVEL.

On turning the cards over, they now spell S-L-O-P-E! ...

No Gaffs or Duplicates. This is a reworked version of "The Case in Hand" that appeared in Duffie's Card Compulsions. You tell a story of a stranger and a gang of four in an unpleasant neighborhood. The gang needs to defend their turf but the stranger with the help of two body guards finds a clever place to hide.

All the effects use simple fakes or subtleties to accomplish off-beat effects.

INTERNECINE is a novel version of the Tunnel Change and uses a small packet of cards. The cards appear to change places of their own accord. The performer demonstrates this phenomena further by causing two of the cards to change places in a very convincing manner. Finally the transposition is repeated and this time the change takes place visibly.

DICHOTOMY is a very strange prediction effect. A spectator chooses a card and tears it into two pieces. One of the pieces is destroyed and the other retained by the...

Three off beat effects which have received the praise of laymen, magicians and reviewers.

CLEAR THOUGHT uses four blank cards. A spectator is asked to think of one of the four Queens, Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds or Spades, and whilst the blank cards are in her own hands one of them changes to the mentally selected card. No questions are asked. Not to be outdone, the performer changes the other blanks into the remaining Queens.

POINT BLANK ASSEMBLY gives you the maximum effect for the minimum effort. Four Kings change places one at a time with four blank cards. The transposition is repeated only this time it occurs instantly. Finally the four Kings disappear altogether.
