Magic with an ESP Deck

Magic with an ESP DeckInstant classic! Good effects and all of them very easy to do. What I liked most is that the methods can be adapted to make my own effects not using ESP cards. No fluff, no wasted pages here. Recommended!

Ageless Artifices

Ageless ArtificesThese are more novelties than tricks. They are best suited as casual conversation starters in a bar or around a dinner table. You have probably seen all of them at one time or another. With that in mind, since you receive printable versions of all the tricks, this is much better value than purchasing the separately pre-made ones. I have seen these on magic websites for $3 to $5 each. I like stuff like this because they can be adapted into new and more complex tricks with some imagination.

Chris Wasshuber runs a wonderful website with tons of useful information. In his review guidelines, he suggests leaving some brief bio information in the magic reviews. I am 76 years old. Five years ago, a cruise ship had a magic show. I purchased his promotional kit with a few tricks. The magic bug bit hard. I now own the Tarbell books, 13 Steps to Mentalism, and many, many books and videos on Magic and Mentalism, which I have studied. I lean toward Mentalism as a fancy sleight of hand is difficult with arthritis. I mainly do thirty-minute shows for senior citizens living in my area.

Menta Color

Menta ColorThis is probably one of the better bargains on Lybrary.com. It beautifully illustrates a mathematical principle that I have seen used in other tricks. You will recognize the name when you see it. When this method is embedded in more complex tricks, it can be not easy to follow and understand. As a stand-alone trick, this is not amazing. As a teaching method for mathematical principles, it is outstanding. Lots of possibilities to invent new tricks based on this using photos or symbols.

Magic with an ESP DeckI have this from the 80's. It is well worth your money. Some of the effects in it like ONE in 14,400 will make a spectator appear extremely psychic. It has my highest rating.

Swami and Mantra

Swami and MantraThis is a steal at this price. I own the hard cover edition. There is so much usable material between the covers. I am amazed at the contributors - they were the movers and shakers of that time period. I am on my third read through and each time I am coming across new ideas for plots or something that can be updated. A little imagination and some updating and you a treasure trove of material. For example There is a numerology effect on page 34 that if performed today would blow people away - it is just begging for a good presentation. The mathematical principle is so well hidden I smiled as I read through the effect and method. Also on page 30 there is an improved Brainwave deck - this deck can be fanned and shown front and back before you start - any card thought of and it appears face up in a face down deck and again the deck can be fanned and shown front and back with the reversed card. Full instructions are given on how to make the deck. Those are just two effects. I also enjoy reading the Indian Faker routines - though I would never attempt them - like eating glass or razor blades - but they are very interesting. When you first see the layout it looks rough and Richard Kaufman in the publishers note of the hard cover edition even states that this was a low budget newsletter and the intent was to preserve it's originality . I highly recommend this combined set and should be on any serious students reference shelf - again this is low price to pay for the wealth of material between the covers

42 Amazing Tricks and Stunts with Rope

42 Amazing Tricks and Stunts with RopeAs an owner of the actual printed copy of this book, I have to say that it is really good. The basics are covered, all the way up to a decent handling of Professor's Nightmare.

Whenever I teach magic classes, this is one of the best resources, and also to have for sale afterward. The actual printed copy sells for $3.00 also, and can be found via quite a few magic shops.

This is a great book for someone beginning to explore rope magic. And it is very well illustrated.
