These are effects you can do with a jumbo deck of cards preferably on stage or in a parlor setting.

Many standard playing card 'moves' are possible with Jumbos, though, obviously, because of their size, the accent must be on subtlety rather than manipulation.

The performer should make the most of the many opportunities for comedy, inherent in the very use of cards of such an unusual size. The very fact of asking a spectator to 'shuffle' such a pack, is funny in itself ... and, where it suits the performer’s style, no opportunity should be lost, to allow the spectators to 'mix' the cards. ...

An eight-phase rope routine, including sliding knots, jumping knots, and cut and restored sequences.

To perform this routine, you will require no more than a piece of rope, about four feet long, and a shorter piece approximately six inches in length.

The instructions do not include patter.

Don't expect to be stumbling from one hilarious line to another. Many lines and bits are dated, but perhaps carry a funny seed and can be modernized with some thought. As always with such joke compilations, if you find one or two that fit your style, you have received your money's worth.

The Gen magazine was published by Harry Stanley just after WWII. The first issue came out in December 1945. The magazine was published for 26 years with 303 issues covering a total of 8,685 pages. Lewis Ganson, one of the greatest British magical writers ever, was the editor until the magazine changed hands in 1971. It continued under the editorship of Val Andrews for a further two issues as the New Gen.

Virtually every known name in the world of post-war magic made a contribution to the Gen or was featured in its columns. Ken Brooke, for example, contributed 27 items...
