With a regular deck, in their own hands, two people each look at a card. They have a 100% free choice of any card. Their cards are lost - you genuinely don't know where they are in the deck!

You now put the cards into your empty pocket then, seconds later produce both selections. The rest of the deck is now removed and you are able to continue with any other card routines that you have mastered.

The instructions detail four presentations - the one above, one performed with a face up deck, one involving four people (ideal for two married couples - to see if they are compatible) and a 100%...

This is the strangest rising card method ever. Why? Because the card that rises is the actual gimmick. Also, the selected card rises and (to amusing patter) its back changes from red to blue. This means that you only have to pocket it, which is logical as its back no longer matches the rest of the cards, and the deck is clean.

Effect: Having just had a card freely forced, you table the deck. Your right hand hovers over it, then descends onto it. Suddenly... a card spins out of the deck and into your waiting left hand. Someone tries to find the queen amongst two jokers, but fails every time. You pocket the queen, and ask them to find the black and white joker... they fail again as... all three cards are queens!

Holding three face down jumbo(ish) sized playing cards you say, "These cards may look very large, but they aren't... it's just that I have very small hands." As you patter, you show the cards to be two jokers and... a queen.

You explain that they are to ignore the jokers and... try to follow the queen.

You have three red-backed cards: two cards marked THIS one card with the word THAT. All you have to do is keep your eye on THAT but most of the time you get THAT wrong and it is THIS and when you get THIS and THAT wrong suddenly the back of THIS turns blue!

Kings Incognito is one of Martin's least demanding acts, in a technical sense. The sleights required are ones that will be found in the repertoir of the average close-up magician. Any sleights that you may not presently do can be learned within a reasonable time. The most demanding sleights occur, ironically, during the introductory sequence in which nothing happens. In this prologue to the magic, Martin demonstrates several methods in which people shuffle cards. This is Stephen's stage size Find the Lady Routine using any three ungimmicked, any size cards. It can be done close-up with playing cards or business cards. It can be done on stage with A2 size cards with cartoon pictures on them or images of the company logo. The possibilities are endless.

Because the cards are ungimmicked, it can be customized to the client. So you can have a picture of the bride in-between two pictures of the groom for a wedding. You can have a picture of the company boss in-between two signs that say "You'r Fired" for a corporate dinner party.
