The 'card under drink' plot was made famous by Heba Haba Al (Al Andrucci) in the 1960s. Ever since it has been a favorite of bar magicians all over the world. Here Allan teaches a version that uses a misdirective idea by John Bannon. The effect is clear and devastating. A chosen card unexpectedly ends up under a drink (glass, can, etc.).

A multiple shift allows you to control several cards inserted at different places in the deck to the bottom or top of the deck.

This is a routine Allan Ackerman developed in the early 1970s where he tried to achieve the cards across effect with as little motion as possible. He also added a visual card vanish. Later Paul Harris took this routine and turned it into his famous Sleeper routine.

A spectator picks a card. A second spectator cuts off a small portion of the deck, counts the cards, and puts the counted cards in a safe place. The performer then attempts to magically add as many cards to the second spectator's pack as the value of the card the first spectator chose.

This is a beautifully motivated opening effect for a card manipulation act. A deck of cards is introduced. The cards are taken out of the case. The cards and the case magically switch places several times. Besides the clever gimmick it is really a lesson in how to motivate the various effects in the performance. Wonder demonstrates how this effect of a deck of cards switching place with its case can be turned into a wonderfully motivated episode rather than an unmotivated series of effects. Wonder finds a good reason for every sequence that turns a simple trick into a story and thus beautiful...

Watch and learn the routine that won Carl the F.I.S.M. World Championship. Four signed cards completely vanish. Three of them reappear inside three different pockets. The fourth selection reappears in your sock! All four cards then vanish again, only to make their reappearance inside a sealed can of Slimfast, opened by the spectator.

The methods of how to get cards in your pockets, a card in your sock and how to load cards into a closed can holding some type of powder are easily applicable in many other situations.

This trick might become your favorite trick. You show spectators a green casino chip. And then every few seconds a new visual effect happens. The chips proliferate and migrate under your hands. They disappear and reappear somewhere else. They change color individually and for the climax all three chips change color.

The Fan Change
This is what Daniel considers to be a signature color-change and it is one of his favorites. A card is turned face up on top of the deck. The deck is fanned and before the fan closes the face up card has changed to another card.

The fan change is impromptu, it can be performed with any deck of cards and isn't hard to achieve. To stub a misconception...the top card is not being taken away from...
