Long overlooked in the English-speaking world, this volume offers a fascinating glimpse into a rich magical tradition, packed with ingenious card tricks, sophisticated parlor illusions, anti-spiritualist experiments, and stagecraft that remains strikingly clever and effective today. TRANSLATOR'S PREFACE

PART I: CARD MAGIC

THE FIVE MYSTERIOUS CARDS: Five cards are assembled into a fan, vanish completely, and later reappear from an impossible location.

A MYSTERIOUS THOUGHT PHOTOGRAPHY: A spectator mentally selects a queen. The magician "photographs" their thought, predicting both the chosen card and its exact position in the deck.

THE APPEARING AND DISAPPEARING CARD IN THE HAND: A single card visually vanishes from the magician's hand only to instantly reappear at the fingertips.

WHATEVER YOU WANT!!: Spectators freely choose a card value (e.g., Queens). Those four cards are then magically discovered and isolated multiple times within a shuffled deck.

THE RISING CARDS IN THE POCKET: Selected playing cards rise mysteriously and sequentially from the magician's breast pocket.

PLAYING CARD AND FILM STAR: A chosen playing card visibly travels from a closed wallet into a previously empty photo frame, replaced by a picture of a film star.

THE CARDS IN THE GLASS: Cards chosen from a deck and returned vanish entirely after the deck is placed under a cloth in a glass.

THE PLANKS FROM TUTANKHAMUN'S TOMB: After a card is merely thought of by a spectator, it is discovered magically sandwiched between two ancient-looking wooden boards.

THE SECRET OF THE SEVENS: Using four sevens as magical guides, the performer can instantly locate any card named by the audience from a shuffled deck.

ORDER RULES THE WORLD: After a complex but fair selection process by multiple spectators, groups of cards assemble themselves into matched sets inside separate glasses.

NEW METHOD TO FIND A SELECTED CARD WITH A KNIFE: While blindfolded, the magician stabs a knife through a newspaper covering a spread deck, cleanly impaling the spectator's chosen card.

PART II: ILLUSIONS

THE GREAT ILLUSION "CREO": A lifeless clay head mounted on a frame is slowly transformed into a living, breathing woman who steps down from the platform.

PART III: PARLOR MAGIC

GASTON'S GREAT HOURGLASS TRICK: The sand in a large, examined hourglass defies gravity by visibly flowing from the bottom bulb back to the top without being turned over.

A BELL EXPERIMENT: Three sleigh bells are examined - one rattles, two are silent. Despite slow, visible movements, the audience is consistently fooled about which glass contains the ringing bell.

THE CHEMIST'S SECRET: A red silk handkerchief placed into a newspaper cone transforms into a blue silk handkerchief, which is pulled from the cone's tip.

SILK AND EGG: Two silk handkerchiefs vanish from a newspaper cone, replaced by a stream of confetti. The silks are later found inside an egg, which itself is discovered inside a head of cabbage.

HOW I MAKE 60 COINS APPEAR: The magician produces a massive quantity of 60 coins from the air, a spectator's person, and a tray, culminating in a stunning vanish of all coins from a glass.

GASTON'S ORIGINAL GOLDFISH CATCH: With sleeves rolled up, the magician plucks six live goldfish from the empty air and deposits them into a clear aquarium.

THE MYSTERIOUS FISHNET: Several live goldfish are caught from thin air using a simple fishnet and added to an aquarium.

THE MIGRATION OF THE BALLS: Four solid balls placed in a box vanish and are instantly transported across the stage to appear inside a sealed glass tube.

PART IV: ANTI-SPIRITUALIST EXPERIMENTS

OCCULTISM AND TELEPHONE: Through apparent mentalism and a mathematical procedure, the performer psychically divines the name, address, and phone number of a stranger from a directory.

THE SPIRIT RINGS: Several borrowed wedding rings are collected and dropped into a glass, only to be removed moments later mysteriously linked together in a chain.

OCCULTISM AND TELEPHONE: A good idea for a variant of the mental trick explained previously that allows for repeating the effect before the same audience.
