Split Prediction

A near-impromptu routine with surprisingly strong impact. The spectator shuffles, and the magician removes a prediction card and sets it aside. The spectator freely cuts the deck into three piles, shuffles, remembers any card, and gives the deck a random cut. The magician says the spectator will help locate the selection, then has them lift a small packet and perform a faro shuffle with the rest, which naturally re-forms the deck into three packets. Taking the third packet, the magician deals pairs from the top and bottom, and the last card remaining in the hand is the selection. But it's not over - the initial prediction is an Ace, and the three packets (the one freely cut, the one woven in the faro, and the final interlaced packet) each reveal one of the remaining three Aces. Performance transcript:

• For this routine, the spectator can shuffle first.
• Then I'm going to take out a prediction card.
• Let me see… I'll find a prediction card.
• OK.
• Set this prediction card aside.
• Place the rest of the deck on the table.
• Have the spectator cut the cards into three piles.
• Cut one pile here.
• And the last pile here.
• This was the original top—let the spectator give it a shuffle.
• And this was the original bottom.
• Shuffle that as well.
• After shuffling, have the spectator lift any packet.
• Remember the card they cut to.
• Remember it.
• The 2 of Hearts—good.
• After they return it, have them drop the rest of the cards on top.
• Give the deck a random cut.
• Now as the magician I need to figure out where their card ended up.
• But I need the spectator to help me.
• I need them to lift a packet and place it onto my hand—but not more than half the deck.
• Let's say they cut this much.
• This is the packet they freely cut.
• In performance, they can genuinely cut anywhere.
• Then I take the cut-off packet—and shuffle it together with the remaining cards.
• You can see—the whole deck is shuffled together.
• From the shuffle point—I divide the deck into three packets.
• This is where the spectator cut.
• This is the interlaced shuffle section.
• This is the remainder.
• I take the remainder—and shuffle it two cards at a time.
• After this shuffle—with a snap—I can locate the spectator's original card, the 2 of Hearts.
• And not only that.
• This is the packet they cut to.
• And this is the remainder.
• All cut and shuffled entirely by the spectator.
• At the beginning, I set aside a prediction card.
• The prediction was an Ace.
• And from the spectator's random cut—we can now reveal the other three Aces.
