The spectator freely selects a card and returns it to the deck. The magician inserts two Jokers, and the spectator table-riffle shuffles and cuts the cards. The Jokers progressively close in and finally sandwich the selection. On top of that, during the shuffles the spectator also separates the deck into three piles and locates the other three cards of the same value!
Performance transcript:
- This routine uses two Jokers.
- Have the spectator point to a card at random.
- Assume this is the selection.
- Have them note the card.
- Return the selection to the center.
- Give the deck a shuffle.
- Spread the deck on the table.
- Insert the two Jokers at two different positions, one above and one below.
- Square up.
- Now have the spectator shuffle to try to change the Jokers positions.
- Have them cut off a packet.
- Then riffle the two packets together.
- Notice, although the deck was interlaced
- the Jokers are still far apart
- Have the spectator cut the deck.
- Square it.
- Now the Jokers are closer together.
- They now trap about a dozen cards.
- Have the spectator shuffle again.
- Spread the deckânow the Jokers trap a single card.
- All of this was done by the spectator.
- Ask for the selection: the Jack of Clubs.
- They have located the Jack of Clubs.
- During the cuts and shuffles the deck was also separated into three packets.
- They not only found the Jack of Clubs, but the other three Jacks as well.
