Choice of Mortals

The spectator freely cuts the deck. The performer spreads the cards and claims to mentally influence the spectator to choose a specific card. The spectator then freely selects a card - no force. After the selection, the performer splits the deck at the point of selection and reveals that the cards are in suit-and-value order, except for the one card the performer named at the beginning. The finale reveals the spectator's selection, which turns out to be exactly the card predicted at the start.

Performance transcript:

• To begin, the spectator freely cuts the deck.
• Next, I have the spectator freely select a card.
• But before the selection, I first state that the spectator will choose the Four of Diamonds.
• Suppose the spectator selects this card.
• The selection divides the cards into a left and right packet.
• The cards are actually arranged in sequence.
• The bottom card of the left packet is the Three of Diamonds.
• Here we have the One, Two, and Three of Diamonds.
• The freely selected card is placed here.
• The other packet consists of the Five through Nine of Diamonds.
• And the selection lies exactly between the Three and the Five of Diamonds.
• The selected card is, in fact, the Four of Diamonds.
