A fooling routine: the spectator cuts off a packet and notes the bottom card, then shuffles freely, replaces it anywhere in the deck, and shuffles again. The performer still locates the selection. Furthermore, the spectator decides how the shuffle is done; the deck is then mixed into three packets, and the bottom cards of all three packets match the value of the selection.
Performance transcript:
- First, have the spectator cut the deck.
- Have them cut off a small packet and remember the bottom card.
- There is no force involved.
- Then give the deck a shuffle.
- Have the spectator cut a large packet and replace it into the deck.
- Now shuffle the deck together.
- Under these conditions, it seems impossible to locate the selection.
- Yet I'll still attempt to find it.
- It should be this card.
- And I successfully locate the selection—the 10 of Diamonds.
- I cut the deck in half and continue shuffling.
- The spectator can decide where I shuffle.
- I run through the deck from top to bottom and have them call stop.
- Let's say they stop here.
- Shuffle the two packets together.
- Square up and deal into three packets—one, two, three.
- The spectator freely selected the 10 of Diamonds.
- And freely chose where I shuffled into these three packets.
- Yet it lands with the other three Tens.
