John Mulholland
(9th June 1898 - 25th February 1970)
Born in Chicago, Illinois. Inspired at age 5 seeing Kellar show. Learned at age 13 when tutored by John William Sargent at $5 per hour. Debut at age 15. Pro performer-lecturer-collector. Last editor of The Sphinx 1932-53. SAM Hall of Fame.
A major collector of magic books (some 3,500 by 1937 and over 4,000 by his death) and memorabilia. He sold his superb collection to The Players club where it was housed until 1984 when sold to an anonymous patron, later sold to David Copperfield.
The MagiCIAn by Ben Robinson is the only biography of John Mulholland.
