Based on the old 'Fred' card trick, Wolfgang launched his magician fooling version 'Fred Outdone' in 1990, causing a sensation amongst magicians and adding a unique twist in that the whole deck could be shown as a red back deck, except for the Fred card. Imagine removing a prediction card and placing it in your pocket. You then bring out two decks, one with numbered cards and one standard deck. The spectator makes an actual free choice from each deck, selecting one number and one playing card. The performer removes his prediction to show it not only matches the freely selected card, but it also has the chosen number boldly drawn on it. A double prediction and ACAAN combined.

Here is a straight forward effect which is enabled by a clever gimmick. You ask somebody to think of any one of the five ESP symbols. Then you look deep into their eyes, read their mind, and commit by writing what you read in their mind on a little notebook. Then you ask them to reveal their thoughts. Kevin Parker has created a prediction effect that is too impossible to be true: you predict where their card will land in a shuffled deck (*this many* cards down in the deck), mixed in someone's hat to eliminate false shuffling in the hands.

This uses no gimmicks and no trick decks. Use your hat or their's, no specific type. Very practical.

• Spectator can assist the shuffle in hat.

Borrow a pen, write with it, and then casually remove your hand, while the pen remains standing unsupported.

This is best performed as an off-beat effect where folks do not expect a trick, but the magic just happens. The pen is unprepared. The notebook hides the gimmick which is for all practical purposes invisible.

Bonus routine is a rubber band ring linking effect. A borrowed ring is linked into two rubber bands. This can be performed impromptu.

This incredible visual card effect was originated in the 80's and has been adapted, fine-tuned, up-dated and changed to what could easily be considered to be one of the most visual and surprising card tricks ever.

The magician admits he has a special set of trick cards and shows 8 regular blue backed cards each with a huge black cross drawn on the back. However, nobody one can see the crosses, even as each is clearly shown. In fact the cards magically turn face up too. If you are searching for a visual 'packet style' card trick with normal (even borrowed) cards, then this is the trick for you. Three red numbered cards are removed from a regular deck of cards and all simultaneously shown to be normal cards. One at a time, each card changes into a Joker. The last change is the most visual of them all. The cards are clearly all shown to be jokers and instantly they change back into the original three normal red numbered cards.

Here is a collection of Open Prediction methods, for the working mentalist or magician. Each method is clean, using no gimmicks.
