★★★★★ $8 A Scotch Brand of MagicJoseph White ... when used and developed to its fullest potential will take its place alongside the Thumb Tip, the Dye Tube, Magicians Wax, the Pull, etc., etc. Twenty eight audience tested effects are described in this forty-one page book. They range in variety from effects with coins, balls and silks, to the Three Shell Game, a 'Scotch' Misers Dream, Holy Smoke!, Holy Cow!, etc., etc. Tape Palming is a technique that will become as familiar in the lexicon of magicians as body loads, vesting, stealing, the lift and so forth. As the reader becomes familiar with this technique he will find it an easier method... ★★★★★ $8 Gamblers' Tricks with CardsJonathan H. Green ...Scores of street scams, swindles, and card table ruses are explained in this 163 page ebook, guaranteed to separate a sucker from his money just as quickly today as when this tome was first written in the mid-1800s. Don't read this book to cheat -- instead, get it for protection so you don't become a victim.
This a fascinating study, filled with accounts of colorful, larger-than-life characters. Some were victims, others turned the tables and made suckers out of the swindlers. The author, "a reformed gambler," goes beyond playing cards to detail the inside work on thimbles (the precursor to the three shell game), dice, and crooked auctions, too.
Every word has been reset in crystal clear type for easy reading. Additional illustrations have been added (now twice as many). Over a hundred corrections were made, as well as several new paragraphs added.

The routine the author performs is presented in good detail, but there isn't much new about it. A major disappointment in the routine he offers is the initial premise of the chop cup process being a "con". I already do the Three Shell Game; I have a con routine. The Chop Cup needs to get away from the contest/challenge idea, even when the challenge is benign, as in John Mendoza's famous routine. I also find it slightly ironic that the author dislikes the "slam", and yet uses a Don Alan cup. Don was the master of the... ...
