A very fooling self-working card routine.
The spectator shuffles the deck and takes 8 cards. They freely choose 3 of them and add up their values. The magician shows the cards one at a time, and the spectator remembers the card at the position corresponding to the total. The magician then shuffles the cards and removes the remaining 5 cards. Their values add up to the exact position of the spectator's selection.

Performance transcript:
- First, shuffle the deck.
- You can let the spectator shuffle the deck.
- Split the deck into two packets and have the spectator shuffle them together.
- The cards are thoroughly mixed.
- Push them in.
- This trick uses eight cards.
- We'll use the eight cards the spectator just shuffled.
- Have the spectator freely select three cards.
- Let's say the spectator chooses these three cards.
- During the performance, I don't look at the spectator's selections.
- Have the spectator add up the values of the three cards.
- Next, I'll show the cards one at a time.
- The spectator must secretly remember the card corresponding to the total of the three values.
- For example, if the total is 10, remember the 10th card.
- If the total is 20, remember the 20th card.
- So the spectator will remember the 15th card.
- Since I don't know which card the spectator remembered, I'll continue dealing.
- After a while, I'll ask, "Have you remembered your card?"
- Once they have, I'll stop.
- Next, I'll find the spectator's card.
- The spectator freely shuffled eight cards at the beginning.
- Three cards are here, and five cards remain here.
- All of these cards were freely selected by the spectator.
- These five remaining cards—a 9, an 8, a 2, a 6, and a 4—have a combined value of 29.
- We count 29 cards from the top.
- And we find the Queen of Clubs the spectator freely remembered.
