Bruce Cervon had been a full-time professional magician since 1965. He won many awards including the Magic Castle Close-up Magician Of The Year, in fact, he won it more than once. This recording features some of the commercial card magic of Bruce Cervon.

Perhaps his most famous effect is "Dirty Deal". Here, for the first time, is the opportunity to learn Bruce's own handling. Bruce Cervon is also well known for his interest in topological card magic and he describes a very clean handling for "Cardwarp" using one card and a dollar bill. It's an excellent routine in which a playing card reverses...

This is one of the earliest publications which has Burling Hull's Svengali deck described. Hull called it originally the "Cards Mysterious". Even in this early publication he complains about unauthorized copies being sold by unscrupulous dealers. A hundred years later and nothing has changed. We still have magic retailers and manufacturers producing and selling illegal and unauthorized copies of magic products.

One thing has changed though over the last 100 years - the use of Bicycle cards. Hull writes:

Effect: The magician displays a packet of six Jokers and asks the spectators if they have ever heard of marked cards. Assuming they reply in the affirmative, the magician continues, "Well, most people don't know how to really mark cards. Especially in a subtle fashion. But I do. And I'll show you right now using this packet of jokers." Noticing two blue backed jokers in the packet, the magician sets them aside, claiming they are "troublemakers". Effect:

The magician removes a small packet of Jokers. "These Jokers may look like normal cards but they are actually incredible magicians!" he claims. The Jokers are placed aside and the spectator selects a card. We'll say it's the Queen of Diamonds. The card is left face down on the table.

The magician shows that there are three Jokers in the packet and one blank card. "This card is a canvas on which the Jokers will write a divination."...

Effect:

A card is selected by a spectator and kept face down on the table. We'll say this card is the Jack of Diamonds. The magician claims that this is a "magic card" and will be used later. He then removes the four Aces from the deck as well as 12 indifferent spot cards and proceeds to perform a super clean Ace Assembly.
