It has been a few years since the publication of Modern Mentalism with its 3 Volumes and little time since the publication of Mentalism from A to Z. In these volumes, techniques, psychology, tricks, ethics and much more have been explained about the world of mentalism. This world is always immense as a heritage of creativity for which I wanted to publish this new guide with a different approach: not to mention particular techniques but making available to the reader only tricks of mentalism to be carried out immediately.

The aim is to create a real practical repertoire, to be performed...

The title sums up the spirit of the guide, in fact with this eBook the purpose was precisely to give an overview of the art of mentalism, talking about the techniques used, psychology, cold reading and much more, not getting lost in descriptions of details that only the individual performer can and must necessarily learn and refine by trying and trying again.

For this reason, no room has been given to the presentations. It seems a paradox not to mention the presence of an illusionistic effect when this is probably more than 90 percent of the effect itself, but, as said little, the presentation...

A mentalism effect with drama, humor ... and death! What's not to like?

Four people are asked to write the name of a living celebrity on a piece of paper, while another person writes the name of a dead celebrity on theirs. The papers are folded and put inside five unmarked tablet bottles which are then placed into a bag and mixed up. The performer brings out the bottles one by one, holding each against his forehead dramatically. He can instantly locate the dead celeb.

This is a simple but hugely effective mentalism routine with lots of laughs. You get the full routine with original one-liners,...

From a paper bag, you remove a ball of paper which is then thrown over your shoulder into the audience. The person who catches it is going to assist you. You show them a selection of movies written on to the faces of playing cards. These are turned face down and the spectator mixes them behind their back. You say you're going to try and use your manipulation skills and make them select a certain movie. After they have mixed the cards, you invite them to take the top card. It's 'Jurassic Park'. You then instruct them to open the ball of paper used to freely select them - it's a poster for Jurassic...

The performer hands a prediction envelope to a member of the audience and then asks people to call out the names of any members of the Beatles, the Bee Gees or ABBA. (*You choose any bands). The performer writes down a selection of the names as they are called out until he's got seven or eight of them. He then reads them all out again to make sure he's got every person's selection, which they confirm. The papers are then folded and thrown into a bowl. A spectator selects any one and takes a secret look at it.

The performer then proceeds to read the spectator's mind correctly - telling them...

A spectator writes any word of their choice onto a sticker which is placed on their playing card. The card is then replaced somewhere into the deck - the magician genuinely doesn't know exactly where the card is. The deck is placed back into the card box and the magician proceeds to correctly discern what word has been chosen. A different word every time. Can also be a drawing, number, etc. Five-second re-set. No-brainer.

What people really love is that there's a fantastic visual gag (or two) in the middle of this routine which we don't want to spoil. But you will get big laughs, guaranteed....

Six Sharpies are placed under 6 numbered, identical paper cups. While the performer turns away, a spectator removes a Sharpie from any cup and writes down the number of the cup they selected. They place the paper in their pocket and replace the Sharpie back under the cup. The magician can instantly reveal which number cup they took the Sharpie from. 100% self-working. Nothing is marked. A simple gimmick you may already have does the trick.

Also included is The Pencil Case Mystery which is a brilliant variation on the above routine. 6 pencil cases each contain a different colored Sharpie....

Here's a fantastic method for predicting virtually anything. The gimmick is simple and all you need to make it is two common items you might already have. The gimmick enables you to create feature effects that play huge.

The Washing Line: 8 items are hanging on a line - 7 are clean, and one needs washing again. The audience freely eliminates them one at a time until one remains - it's the one that has a large 'stain' on the back. Includes full routine. So easy to do, yet so clever. No force, no stooges - just a brilliant 'slap-your-forehead' method.

Here's a cool mentalism effect where you force a series of Scrabble pieces in the fairest of ways. The effect can be performed in close-up or standup situations. A bag of Scrabble pieces is shown in a paper bag - spectators can freely select any pieces - they are all mixed - just like in a normal game of Scrabble. The performer reveals that he knew how many points their Scrabble tiles would add up to, plus which word would be made, in a novel way. This is easy to do and easy to make. All you need is a couple of paper bags ... and the gimmick is so easy, you can make a pile of them at the same...

The Final Straw - a very clever mentalism effect. Five different colored straws in a cocktail glass. One straw contains a rolled-up gift voucher for the holiday of a lifetime and a year's supply of cocktails. All the others contain a note which says 'you lost!' Spectators select any 4 colored straws (no forcing) the contents of each straw is pushed out ... and they all lose. The remaining straw has the winning gift voucher. This is so clever and virtually self-working. You'll need to buy some straws - you should have everything else you need. As usual with Graham's effects, they are easy to...

A great mentalism effect for small groups to huge crowds.

Effect: A pile of cards with the name of a movie star on each one is shown to a helper. They remove one and it's placed into an envelope, whilst the magician turns away - the remaining cards are removed. It's a completely free choice.

There are no stacks, and no card set up - they can be freely shuffled by the spectator first. The cards are not marked. The envelope is 100% opaque. The spectator holds the envelope with their card inside, in front of their face - and the performer asks a member of the audience which movie the spectator...

Five different colored cards are shown to the spectator and each one has an object written on it which you can find in your house. The performer turns away and spreads the cards. The spectator is asked to select a card and show it around. There is no forcing. The card is replaced anywhere in the spread the whilst the performer is still turned away and then they are shuffled by the spectator ... then the performer places the cards into an envelope. The helper is asked to think of the object on the card they selected. The performer opens his hand to reveal a miniature object - it's the object...

Four envelopes - each contains a key. Only one will open a locked box on the table. The envelopes are mixed-up by a helper. Then three members of the audience freely pick an envelope and try their key in the lock. None of them work. Your envelope is the only one left ... you open it, remove the key and it opens the lock! You get to keep the keys to your Porsche.

This is completely self-working and is great for stand-up or close-up for small groups, like a table at...

Easy to do mentalism effects.

Word-Up is a word prediction where a spectator selects any magazine from a selection, any two numbers are called out and the word on that page and line is remembered. The performer reads their mind and writes down the exact same word. Then he asks the spectator to flip through their magazine and remember any famous landmark they see ... the performer draws his in advance. He's correct again. It's so easy to do. You'll have to buy a few magazines to make this, but it's worth it. Perfect for stand-up.

One helper reads the mind of another.

A brilliant, simple self-working mentalism effect. Includes bonus effects.

Different cards with drawings on them are shown to a spectator and genuinely mixed. A spectator selects any one of them - it's a free choice. All she has to do is then think of the image and try to send her thoughts to another spectator who is going to draw an image on a pad. After a few seconds, the second spectator sees an image and draws it on to a pad. The lady reveals the image she was trying to send, and then the spectator shows his pad - they have both been thinking of...

Five cards with different emotions written on them are placed into non-marked envelopes and freely mixed up. The performer holds each one against his forehead. Can he feel the 'Love' card tonight? He certainly can! Easy, baffling mentalism.

Gregg Webb and Ed Brown teach a mentalism routine that enables you to perform a demonstration of clairvoyance or psychometry. Polaroid Princess was an effect Gregg kicked around for hours on the phone with the great mentalist Bob Cassidy. He liked the idea. This is a further development of the same idea. You will need some form of instant camera, be it a classic Polaroid camera or any regular camera with a Zero-ink portable instant photo printer.
