My card routines Triple Cut ACAAN and Three Chances ACAAN have received a great response on Lybrary, and ACAAN routines where the spectator cuts three cards and their values add up to the final position of the selection are one of my favorite types to explore. Today, I'd like to share two more ACAAN routines along the same lines.
Like the previous routines, both are very fooling to magicians, with very direct effects. Both routines also use unconventional methods, resulting in even more unique and powerful effects!
Composite ACAAN:
The spectator freely selects a card and shuffles it back into the deck. Then, from a separate deck, they freely cut three cards with no force. These three cards not only reveal the spectator's selection, but their values also add up to the final position of the selection.
Cut Cards ACAAN:
The spectator cuts the deck, remembers a card, and cuts the selection into the middle of the deck. There is no force involved. The magician then claims he will cut to the spectator's selection, but after cutting three packets, he misses the selection every time. However, the values of the three cards he cuts to add up to the final position of the selection.
Performance trascript:
- This routine uses two decks.
- Have the spectator choose one.
- Let's say they choose the red-backed deck.
- Riffle down the deck and have the spectator call stop to select a card.
- They stop here.
- Return it.
- Shuffle the deck.
- Here's the other deck.
- This deck will help me find the selection.
- Table the deck.
- Have the spectator cut it into three packets.
- Then cut another here.
- Let's look at the cut-to cards.
- They are the Six of Hearts, Nine of Diamonds, and Seven of Clubs.
- None of them is the selection, right?
- Even though they didn't cut to the selection, these three cards are still important.
- The first card, the Six of Hearts, is red.
- So it tells me the selection is red.
- The red suits are Hearts and Diamonds.
- The second card is a Diamond.
- So the selection must be a Diamond.
- Which Diamond?
- The third card has a value of 7.
- So the selection is the Seven of Diamonds.
- But if you think back, I said this deck would help me find the selection.
- Help me find it.
- These three cards were cut to freely.
- What's the total of their values?
- 6+9=15 15+7=22
- Let's count down 22 cards.
- And it's the spectator's selection—the Seven of Diamonds.
- First, shuffle.
- Place the deck on the table, have the spectator cut off a small packet and note the cut-to card
- They can cut anywhere—no force.
- Have them remember that card.
- Have them cut again and drop the card back into the cut.
- There can be no key card—both cuts were completely free.
- Shuffle.
- Now I'll try to cut to their card.
- Give me three chances.
- This is the first packet.
- This is the second packet.
- This is the third packet.
- Nine of Diamonds, Queen of Spades, King of Hearts.
- The spectator says none of those is their card.
- But I didn't cut these three cards for no reason.
- For example, their values add up to thirty-four.
- That tells me your card is at position thirty-four.
- This is the thirty-fourth card.
