A simple and direct effect with an unexpected ending.
A card-and-number routine that I particularly enjoy performing. This project collects two of my most frequently used routines. Three cards are used to locate a spectator's selection, and in the finale, those same three cards lead to every matching mate of the selection.
Predicted Number ACAAN: A card is selected, returned to the deck, shuffled, cut, and the deck is divided into three packets. The top cards of the three packets not only predict the exact number of cards cut by the spectator, but also locate the selection. Just when the audience thinks the routine is over, those same three cards magically reveal the other three cards of the same value.
Fourfold Indication ACAAN: A similar premise with no spectator cut required. The routine builds in phases, with each revelation stronger than the last.
Performance transcript:
- Riffle through the deck and have the spectator call stop to select a card.
- Let's say they stop here.
- Have the spectator remember the card.
- Return the selection to the center of the deck.
- Next, as you shuffle, have the spectator call stop.
- Assume they call stop here the first time.
- And here the second time.
- For the third time, simply place the deck on the table and have them cut about half.
- This is a completely free cut with no force.
- This is where they cut.
- The third one is a free cut.
- Let's look at the cards they stopped at.
- 7D , 6H, and 2S.
- None of them are the selection.
- But these three cards may reveal how many cards were cut.
- 6+2=8, and 8+7=15.
- Let's count.
- Exactly 15 cards.
- The spectator also freely selected a card.
- The cut lands exactly on the selection, the KD.
- This value is 6, so count down 6 cards.
- A second King appears.
- This value is 2, so count down 2 cards.
- A third King appears.
- 7, count down 7 cards.
- The fourth King appears.
- I riffle down the deck from the top.
- Have the spectator call stop anywhere.
- Let's say they stop here.
- Have them remember the card they stopped at.
- OK, got it?
- Let's take a look.
- Jack of Diamonds.
- The Jack of Diamonds is the freely selected card.
- Place it into the middle of the deck.
- Now as the magician, I need to find their card.
- But I want—the spectator to take part in the process.
- So next—I deal the cards into four piles.
- And they call stop anytime.
- They get four chances to locate the selection.
- As I deal like this—they call stop.
- Suppose they stop here the first time.
- Good.
- That's their first stop.
- Then they call stop again anywhere.
- Let's say they stop here the second time.
- And keep going.
- Let's say the third stop is here.
- So the spectator's four stops divide the deck into four piles.
- Let's see if any of these four chances found the card.
- First card: 5 of Hearts.
- They say no.
- Second: 2 of Diamonds.
- Jack of Spades and 6 of Clubs.
- None of them match.
- No hits at all.
- But I notice something—though we didn't find the card—you'll see—the first one is red.
- It might indicate the selection is red.
- The second is Diamonds.
- Red means Hearts or Diamonds—and Diamonds appeared.
- Maybe that tells me—the suit is Diamonds.
- The third card is a Jack.
- Which suggests—the selection is the Jack of Diamonds.
- The spectator agrees.
- And the fourth card is a 6.
- Which might tell me—the position of the Jack of Diamonds.
- Count down: 1 2 3 4 5 6.
- Jack of Diamonds.
- So一we've already found two Jacks
- There are two more cards.
- This one shows a 5.
- Let's count down: 1 2 3 4 5.
- There's the third Jack.
- This one shows a 2.
- Count down: 1 2.
- And the fourth Jack appears.
