The spectator shuffles the deck freely, with no stack involved. The spectator first names any card, then remembers a random card. The magician has no knowledge of the remembered card. In the end, dealing to the named number reveals the spectator's selection.

Performance transcript:

  • Next is a completely impromptu ACAAN routine.
  • First borrow a deck and have it freely shuffled.
  • There is no stack at all.
  • Have the spectator freely name a number from 1 to 52.
  • I have no spectator here, so I'll roll two dice.
  • 56 is too high.
  • 35-we'll use 35.
  • Then have the spectator freely cut off a packet.
  • Have them shuffle it.
  • Have them cut another packet from the first one.
  • Count how many cards there are.
  • Nine cards.
  • Now deal one by one and have the spectator remember the card at that cut number.
  • For example, if they cut 10, they remember the 10th card.
  • Since they cut 9, they remember the 9th card.
  • Then the rest of the cards can be shuffled back in.
  • In this situation, no one knows the selection.
  • In performance, the spectator only memorizes a card.
  • No one knows what card it is or where it is.
  • The spectator freely named the number 35.
  • There is no stack, and the spectator freely cut a packet.
  • They freely memorized a card and freely named 35.
  • Count to 35.
  • The 35th card.
  • The Eight of Hearts.
