The performer randomly places 16 numbered cards onto the table. The spectator randomly chooses 4 quarter-sized cards from a deck of quartered cards and places them randomly onto the number cards. The spectator and the magician summarize the 4 chosen numbers. The performer counts down the same number of cards as the sum from a shuffled normal-sized deck of cards to get a random card. [Eddie Joseph and George Armstrong both published this effect in 1949 under the same name: Premonition. The effects are identical and the methods are also pretty much identical except some minor details. Since George Armstrong describes his inspiration and when and where he developed it, while Eddie Joseph does not, I believe George Armstrong to be the inventor of this method. Effect: The magic-man reaches into his pocket and removes one solitary playing card say for example, the Ace of Diamonds. Draw on the back of this playing card is a rudimentary stickman. The performer goes on to explain that "the stickman lives on this card, the Ace of Diamonds is his home", as this is explained the card is shown clearly on both sides. The performer then goes on to say "like all other people, Mr Stickman likes to go on holiday".
