Card Sharping ExposedJean Eugene Robert-Houdin & Professor Hoffmann ... I read this one, by Houdin and translated by Prof. Hoffman, which I now feel came before the Maskelyne book, and which is even more well written. It starts with some storytelling about the world of the crooked gamblers and swindlers, and then tells some info I never read before about details on thimble rigging. But then, it segues into the telling of the life story of the man who served as Houdin's source of information about cheating at cards. The entire subculture of the gangs of crooked gamblers is explored in great detail. A whole event is set up with crooks acting out the roles of other... | ★★★★★ $12 to wish listPDF |
Thimble MagicJean HugardFor a long time I had the perception that magic with thimbles is at best something for kids. Then I saw a performance by a Japanese magician. And it blew my mind. It was a fast paced, very visual and beautiful manipulation performance.
In this booklet Hugard teaches all the moves and quite a few routines to build your own thimble act. One of the big advantages of thimbles is that they are easier to manipulate than other objects such as balls and coins.

Mainly Manipulative MagicJohn AlboroughFrom the introduction by Lewis Ganson:
Seeing the late Edward Victor on stage at the now defunct Metropolitan Theatre in Edgware Road, London, when John was a small boy, started his interest in magic. Later he became enamoured with the manipulative magic of Geoffrey Buckingham, so it is not surprising that Victor's expert thimble magic and Buckingham’s excellent manipulation of billiard balls, should have had a marked influence on the type of magic John performs. Having met and enjoyed the confidence of these two magicians and studied their books, he built his own act. Certainly the Victor / Buckingham influence is there but John... | ★★★★★ $15 to wish listPDF |
