Pendulum Intuition

Red Nist
Pendulum Intuition by Red Nist

A card is chosen and lost in the deck. The deck is spread on the table. A pendulum is passed over the deck and begins to move over a group of cards. These small numbers of cards are then spread separately on the table. The pendulum is passed again over the cards and the pendulum begins to move clearly over one card. The card is revealed: it's the card of the spectator. This is a good magic trick right?

One day, I dreamed that this trick was done totally by the spectator, thanks to his intuition. I never touch the deck. I never touch the spectator. I never touch the pendulum. I never touch...

theories and experiments have been, frankly, beyond me.

So what I have attempted to do with this book, is to at least let their voices be heard by focusing on the more clear and concise of studies. I am not quite sure why they did what they did, however I do know a good story when I read one. And some of the things herein both amuse me, and horrify me in equal measure.

I hope you find this treatise at least a little fascinating and please keep this knowledge and the thought processes behind it, alive.

Edward Marlo's Full Tilt

Jon Racherbaumer
Edward Marlo's Full Tilt by Jon Racherbaumer

There was a time when the Tilt, or Depth Illusion, was a top-secret technique known only to a few select insiders. The history of this move is somewhat murky, but most credit Dai Vernon with its invention. Marlo claimed he came up with it independently, which I find plausible. Regardless of who first had the idea, the Tilt is a wonderful deception. Over the years, refinements and subtleties have been added by several cardmen. Today, the Tilt is one of the core techniques most card magicians have in their arsenal.

The concept of the Tilt is the following: A card is apparently...

Hideo Kato

Hideo Kato(6th May 1943 - )

When Hideo was thirteen years old, he purchased a book of card magic for beginners but he didn't have a deck of cards. He went to a department store to buy one and asked a saleslady, 'Where can I buy a deck of cards?' She asked, 'What are you going to use it for?' he answered, 'To perform magic.' She pointed to a corner of the store where there was a Tenyo Magic Counter. He had never known that magic apparatus was sold to the general public. He bought a set of Multiplying Billiard Balls and both marked and stripper decks. This was the beginning of his magic career.

He went to work part-time as a magic demonstrator for Tenyo when he was nineteen years old while attending...

Master Payne

Master PayneIn the summer of 1971 a small boy walked into a magic shop where he purchased his very first trick. It was to be the pivotal point in the young mans life and start him down the path of fame and fortune. Today that boy has grown up to be a very successful magician who has appeared in top venues all around the world.

The story of the chubby kid who was standing behind the small boy in that magic shop in 1971 is slightly different.

He was to become Master Payne and even though fame and fortune has successfully eluded him thus far, his story is no less important, though perhaps slightly less impressive.

He left that shop, tricks in hand, and returned to his small hometown stuck firmly...

Joe Karson

Joe Karson... name at birth was Joseph Alexander Chrzanowski) was bitten by the “magic bug” at the age of 10 after witnessing a local magic performance. By the age of 16 he was working in a magic shop in Springfield, Massachusetts and perfecting his own performing skills. Within a year he began performing one-nighters around New England with his Chinese theme magic act called, “Chan Lin and Company.”

During the decades of the 1930’s and 1940’s Karson established himself as a comedic performer, now mostly performing as himself in western clothes (only occasionally performing the Chinese act for magic conventions). But it was also at this time that he made his mark as a magic dealer. He...
