Primer is a trick deck that has existed in Daniel Madison's repertoire for almost a decade. Effect: You show a deck of playing cards - they're blank on the back and on the face you have written all the letters of the alphabet, one letter on each card. The spectator shuffles the deck and selects any four cards. He is then asked to form a word from the four cards chosen. Imagine this: You show your lucky Joker - it's folded and stapled firmly to the card case. A card is selected, let's say it's the Jack of Clubs. It is placed face up in the centre of the pack. Subtitled: Their tricks exposed or the art of always winning

Translated from the French of Robert-Houdin, first published in 1861, by William J. Hilliar. Robert-Houdin wrote this book primarily as an expose to reduce the number of people being cheated. He writes in his preface: "Enlighten the dupes and there will be no more cheats."

This work was first translated in 1863 under the title The Sharper Detected and Exposed. In 1881 Prof. Hoffman translated it anew and brought it up to date under the title Card-Sharping Exposed. Dave Campbell is another of Scotland's creative cardmen. He's perhaps best known as the creator of the popular 'Fred' card effect which was copied all over the world.

Here, in Duplicity Dave Campbell presents an entertaining card effect in which the performer re-enacts one of Houdini's famous feats - walking through a wall. A signed card represents Houdini and a jumbo card represents the wall. Cutting Remarks was originally intended to form part of Card Kinetics, a booklet dealing with various methods of making playing cards move with various kinds of elastic loops, including those pioneered by Finn Jon and pirated by everyone else. However, this version of the Self Cutting Deck, for this is what Cutting Remarks is all about, doesn't use elastic of any kind, not even a thread. This booklet details Terri Rogers' Boromian Link an incredible linking card effect based on Paul Harris' Immaculate Connection. The Harris original is a great impromptu effect but if you are not working impromptu and can use your own cards then you'll find Terri Rogers' method even better. The linking effect looks excellent and in fact fools those familiar with the Harris original. The effect can be performed with any size cards and looks quite spectacular if done with Jumbo cards.

An incredible effect based on a topological principle. Two cards are shown glued back to back. The spectator may examine them as there is nothing to find.

The performer takes the cards, gives them a few deft folds and then hands them back to the spectator ... but now the cards are face to face. It looks impossible because the cards are still glued together. What's more, they are the same cards that the spectator handled earlier. There is no switch of any kind.
