Paper & Paper Money

Paper folding, paper tearing and tricks with paper money are at the heart of this section. I am fascinated by paper. I consider it one of the most important inventions. You might not see it that way, but paper is a hightech product. Paper machines are pretty much the largest and most complicated manufacturing installations in use by humankind. Paper comes in all shapes and sizes and is ideal for customization with a slogan for your next corporate gig or a personal message. Vanishing a dollar bill or changing it into a hundred dollar bill will always garner respect and admiration. It is human nature.

Devin Knight & Ulysses Frederick Grant

Improved Devil's Newspaper by Devin Knight & Ulysses Frederick GrantWith this novel production, you can pick up a newspaper lying flat on a table and produce a large load of solid items, even a dove, without body loads.

Many club performers would like to do a large production, but are reluctant to carry the large apparatus usually necessary for such a production. The Devil’s Newspaper is the answer to this problem. Although this item packs flat in your case, it none the less, holds a large load.

This is real appealing magic as a double-sheet of newspaper is seen flat on your table. It is picked up and shown in a slow and deliberate manner. Yet, when...

Jack Chanin

Center Tear Bill by Jack ChaninOne of the best impromptu tricks ever invented for an unprepared dollar bill, invented by the late Jack Chanin. Long off the market. This charming bit of magic is almost forgotten today. This sold in the 70s for $10.00. According to Dollar Times that would be over $60 in today's dollars.

You show an unprepared dollar bill and fold it into quarters. At the folded corner of the bill you tear off a section, as shown on the cover photo. The audience plainly sees the missing section. Placing the small torn piece into your mouth, you blow it at the bill. Instantly, the bill is restored, pulled...

The spectator himself places the lemon in his coat pocket. The borrowed bill vanishes from the hanky while the spectator is holding it. The man with the lemon cuts it open and finds the bill inside. You do not touch the lemon.

And now for an encore, you decide to mark the handkerchief so the owner will recognize...

A borrowed and signed bill vanishes from a spectator's hands and it is found in a bottle with a screw cap, that was inside a sealed envelope.

An Arthur Setterington original that's a sensation ... clean, easy, visual magic that has impact.

The magician draws attention to a stapled envelope hanging from two clips in a nicely lacquered wood and metal skeleton frame, in complete isolation. He requests the loan of a bill a $1, $5, $10, $100 - a £1, £5, £50 - it doesn't make any difference. Dick Turpin & Alan Shaxon & Ken de Courcy

Tearing Them Up by Dick Turpin & Alan Shaxon & Ken de CourcyThere can be no doubt about it, the "Torn and Restored Newspaper" is one of our modern classics. Many excellent versions have been published and marketed by dealers over the years. Both versions are very easy to prepare and to perform. Ron Jaxon

Bill Burner Clear by Ron JaxonEffect

A borrowed and signed bill is wrapped around a clear cigarette lighter and held in place with a rubber band. The magician is able to cause the bill to vanish from or appear back on the lighter at will. The vanished bill can appear anywhere the magician chooses.

What makes this effect so stunning is the fact that it's done with a clear lighter. When the bill vanishes they can see right through it so there's no way the bill can be somehow hidden under or in the lighter. The magicians hands are also completely empty.

  • Very easy to do.
  • A very visual and impossible vanish.
  • The natural...

Devin Knight

Repeat Bill in Lemon Effect (Version 1) by Devin Knight
"REPEAT BILL IN LEMON is simply PURE SIMPLE GENIUS and to think that 2 years ago I invested $250 dollars in Doug Malloy's THE LEMON GAME. I paid less than $10 for Devin's method and I can do it twice!" - Carl de Rome, Norway
Here is something that Devin Knight kept under wraps for more than 25 years. Imagine doing the bill in lemon with a borrowed bill and immediately repeating it with two lemons that have been in full view on the table at all times. The lemons are NOT concealed in a bag. Both lemons can be examined before the effect begins and there is NO SWITCHING of the lemons. No fancy...

Jack Lamonte

Stunts with Stage Money by Jack LamonteFrom the introduction:
Every magician will have many ideas for the use of Imitation Notes with his Magic ... Notably the ever popular apparent destruction of a borrowed bank note. Such an effect is a traditional one in Magic ... only a magician is crazy or skillful enough in the eyes of the audience to burn or tear a treasury note ... it is direct in appeal and one which always registers with an audience. It is the magic ... or miracle in the eyes of some ... which they expect from a Magician. It is up to the magician to make the most of his effects and the use of Imitation Notes in Treasury...

The late Sid Lorraine designed several novel paper folding tricks. These papers were folded to reveal various pictures or messages. Most of these were released in the mid-50s. By far, the best was called Chinese Folder. This item has been long forgotten and was discontinued by the Abbott Magic Company more than thirty years ago.
