This is my adaptation of Marlo's A Number for Fast Company. I've reworked it to be completely impromptu, finishing with a clean, accurate cut to the spectator's selection.
The spectator shuffles the deck freely, chooses any card, and returns it before shuffling again. The performer then names the exact position of the selection and says, "If I know the position of your card, I should be able to cut straight to it." He then lifts off a packet - matching the number just named - and the final card of that packet is the spectator's selection.
Full performance in the demo video.

Hofzinser was born at the beginning of the 19th century and lived in Vienna during a time called the 'Biedermeier'. This was a time where people enjoyed art and entertainment in drawing-room presentations and at little receptions in the houses and villas of the rich and famous. Hofzinser thus never performed on a stage but perfected the branch of magic today known as 'Close-up'. One could argue that Hofzinser is the grandfather of close-up magic in particular close-up card magic. And this book is all about card magic. We have to thank Ottokar Fischer for collecting Hofzinser's material about...
"Alfonso Bartolacci's Boxed Clairvoyance is a great principle. I tried it with a number of different style boxes and it works as explained. You will have to practice a bit to get it all natural, but once you have it down, it looks great! You need to have this tool in your arsenal." - Richard Osterlind
This is a Gellerish experiment, which should not be part of a regular program, but could be an extraordinary event during a show or, better, an impromptu performance.
A cardboard shoe-box (only the box, no shoes needed) and a deck of cards are borrowed. Everything can be examined and...
"Just got them. Great! Love all the effects inside. Beautiful thinking with the two number predictions and the drawing dupe is a gem and so easy to put together. Real winners!!" - Greg Arce

with Devin's track record. Well after reading this all I can say is this is grossly underpriced. The description above is completely accurate. The tearing procedure is completely natural and innocent and yet extremely easy to remember. You can practically pick up a newspaper and perform this impromptu. For me this is a perfect compliment for my eStooge dice as I can know the number before the spectator does. This was money very well spent.

There have been numerous instructors who explained how to tear a newspaper page so that it yielded a piece of newspaper that bore words that had been already predicted by the performer from the beginning, and where its place in the stack of...
... As each card is spelled, the next card is turned over and proves to be that card! Magician names another card, proceeds to spell it and the next card is it. Can be done 20 or more times. Remember, the deck is borrowed, shuffled and handed to the magician. No skill, No stacks of any kind. 100% impromptu. A real fooler.
#4- A spectator removes the four Jacks and replaces them into different sections, and then gives the deck a shuffle. Now the deck is handed to you and the lights turned out and turned on again. The four Jacks are now reversed throughout the deck. The four Jacks are taken...
Beyond the Eight major pieces of material, not to mention sleights and subtleties, that have remained unavailable since the 20-year run of the New Tops ended, Wesley James has completed the task of fulfilling Ed Marlo's expressed wishes, keeping his material available "for the guys."
If the long-unavailable Marlo items were all Wesley compiled, this would be an important contribution to the
literature of card magic. As tribute to Ed, Wesley wanted this volume to offer more. So, he added clarifications and corrections - both logical and grammatic - plus his own personal Notes....

The immediate repeatability, hands-off handling, and lack of gimmicks make it a highly practical and versatile routine, suitable for both formal and impromptu performances. The perfect balance between psychological presentation and mechanical precision ensures maximum impact and a deeply engaging experience for the spectator

Created in October 2000 (along with Klectors that is elsewhere in this book) as an impromptu performance piece for the International Magic convention in December of that year. You demonstrate how to stack 4 Aces for a four-handed game. Then, you drop the Aces face up on top of the deck and they instantly vanish. You immediately give the deck to a spectator who now deals, not 4 but 5 hands this time. The face up Aces fall to his hand!

And it is easy to learn and even easier to do!
This routine is impromptu! Each phase can be performed on its own, or as a two-phase routine. David gives you all of the information that you need to know to perform this classic sideshow trick. David also gives you some really good performance tips and suggestions for those of you who want to go that extra mile.

the participant only thinks of their question, and does not write anything down, and the mentalist has no gimmicks at all. The mentalist writes answers to questions on an ungimmicked pad. Devin Knight has experience performing this act, and offers very worthwhile guidance. This act is a piece of magic history, having been created by a now forgotten mentalist, Walter G. Magnuson, and Devin has revived Magnuson's writing to bring us the present work. To succeed with this act requires a strong personality and audience management experience, although Devin has made it possible, by the work he...

Here we offer three new approaches to Bob Hummer's classic Mindreader's Dream effect. A spectator merely thinks of a card and out of the performer's view deals some cards to impress the card on the subject's unconscious mind. The dealt cards are lost in the pack. The performer asks the spectator some questions, studies the subject's nonverbal responses, and slowly but surely names the thought-of card.
One method requires a small stack, the other two are impromptu. All use ordinary cards and no sleights. The deck need not be complete.

Some of the biggest names in magic and mentalism have raved about Assertive Positive Negative, Scott F. Guinn's improvement of Max Maven's "Positive Negative." Luminaries such as Ron Bauer, Richard Busch, Dr. Bill Cushman, and Richard Webster have been effusive in their praise. It would have been perfectly understandable, then, for Scott to have rested on his laurels and let the routine alone.
But Scott felt there was room for improvement, particularly on one part of the handling. For months and months, he tinkered and fiddled with the routine. And finally, much as with the epiphany that birthed APN, a very simple and elegant solution occurred...
