The spectator names a Poker hand. He can change his mind. The deck is spread face down and the five cards for the named hand are the only face-up cards. The deck is squared and spread again: the face-up cards have vanished. For the kicker, the deck is spread face up and all the cards are blank. It was all an illusion.

Each spectator is asked to pick a different suit (free choice) and is given a deck that they shuffle. Effect: The magician shows the spectator a unique deck of cards, each bearing a different word. The spectator riffle shuffles the deck. The magician turns away as the spectator takes the top five cards and creates a sentence using those words on the cards. Different sentences can be created by the spectator. Without asking any questions, the magician reveals the exact sentence created by the spectator.

The mentalist shows cards representing five drinking establishments and their signature drink, such as Martini or Old Fashioned. The cards are placed face up on a table on stage. The mentalist now invites three random spectators to join him on stage and explains they will play the parts of folks embarking on an imaginary pub crawl.

The reader invites the sitter to write a detailed question on a blank index card or business card. A security envelope or coin envelope is initialed by the sitter, and the question is sealed inside the initialed envelope. It is kept by the sitter, never to be touched by the reader again.

The reader then writes a prediction...

Effect - The mentalist draws several designs on business cards - these can be standard ESP symbols or designs suggested by the spectators. Any number of designs can be used, as will be seen. The design cards are handed to a volunteer and are not touched again by the mentalist. While the performer's back is turned, one of the designs is selected by the volunteer...

The two Jokers are removed from the deck. Two cards are then selected. One by one the selections are placed between the Jokers and are then stretched to twice their length.

Now, both cards are placed between the Jokers after which they fuse into one examinable two-faced card that can be given to the spectator as a keepsake.

Finally the other cards are tossed onto the table and are seen to have become totally blank!

Effect: You show a deck of playing cards - they're blank on the back and on the face you have written all the letters of the alphabet, one letter on each card. The spectator shuffles the deck and selects any four cards. He is then asked to form a word from the four cards chosen. If it so happens that he can make more than one word - he is allowed a COMPLETELY FREE CHOICE of which word he would like to settle on. A prediction that has been in full view throughout is then shown to accuratley match the freely chosen word!

A Close-Up Mental Mystery with Business Cards

Effect:

The performer displays three business cards. One is handed to a spectator, who is instructed to write the name of a loved one on the blank side of the card. They then turn it face down on the other two cards, and mix them up so the location of this card is unknown to anyone. They lay them out in a row.

The performer then uses his mental abilities to correctly isolate the card with the name on it. Finally, without touching that card, he correctly reveals the name itself!

The magician shows two cards: a regular picture card and a blank face one. The magician stacks the cards on top of each other and the card with the picture visually turns white. After the effect, both cards can be examined by the spectator. Includes a bonus idea by Zaw Shinn. Gimmick requires arts and crafts and some supplies you may not have at home.
