Raphaël Czaja
Spellbound by Raphaël Czaja

Effect: Using a full deck of playing cards, a spectator cuts to one card that the magician asks him to remember. He selects a second card by secretly spelling the name of his thought-of card, dealing one card for each letter, and pockets it. In the first climax, the magician is able to divine the card that the spectator is thinking of. In the second climax, the pocketed card and a prediction (tabled from the beginning) are revealed: They are identical!

No gaff. No sleight. Basically self-working. This routine uses a regular deck and an ordinary odd-backed card only. Everything can be examined. ...

Aldo Colombini
Simply Impromp2 by Aldo Colombini

This is Aldo's second volume of impromptu card tricks. Once again the rules that he required were simple: That the tricks be based on subtle moves and principles only rather than difficult sleights. Most importantly, the tricks had to be totally impromptu with no set-ups. Eventually he did, however, allow a few easy moves such as a card control, a force or a simple sleight; moves that still are very easy to master and perform.

Tricks are organized into the following categories. The last one is a section on simple sleights and procedures:

  • The Four Aces
  • Amazing Coincidences
  • Baffling Revelations ...

Biagio Fasano
SHIELD 3 by Biagio Fasano

S.H.I.EL.D. 3 (SelfWorking Honestly Impromptu Effect: card Location in the Deck - Vol. 3) is the third part of a collection of new, never-before-published card magic effects, designed by me and characterized by the fact that they can be performed with extreme ease, requiring no technique or manipulation by the magician, and being completely extemporaneous, performable even with a deck borrowed and shuffled by the audience (self-working and impromptu).

In addition, even the latter two effects can be performed entirely in "contactless mode" (or hands-off, as others would say): the magician,...

S.H.I.EL.D. Stephen Tucker
Sherlock by Stephen Tucker

"I really enjoyed all of these routines! Very nice. The White House is especially cool!" - Cameron Francis.

"You have some very nice thinking in these variations." - Peter Duffie.

As one of Martin Breese's customers I recently received a newsletter from him that drew my attention to a routine of Peter Duffie's called IDEAL HOLMES. It's a really great self-working routine, and this is what happens...

A regular deck of cards is shuffled and then cut by someone a couple of times. You take back the cards and spread them between your hands and have one FREELY selected by someone. He places the card directly...

Biagio Fasano
Selfworking Contactless ACAAN by Biagio Fasano

A.C.A.A.N. effects are a genre of effects now considered classics in card magic and mentalism, ever since David Berglas, who precisely first proposed a legendary version of it, called it "Any card At Any Number."

The idea of trying to write this special eBook came about while I was preparing my Contactless Automatic Card At Number series of Volumes (now at 6 Volumes) and experimenting in particular with the possibility of creating new automatic effects by making use of various stacks, including Si Stebbins and my VR Stack Pro (see Vol. 2 & 3):

From here to examining the Si Stebbins Pro, devised by Dr. Hans Christian Solka, was a short step, and with pleasure...

Easy packet tricks performed with regular cards and with virtually no sleight-of-hand.

  • MERELY THOUGHT-OF CARD MIRACLE (Paul Gordon): A card is mixed in a packet of eight cards, yet you reveal it.
  • BUBBLE SORT (Werner Miller): Three face cards capture two selected cards.
  • WEDLUCK (Peter Duffie): Cupid (a Jack) couples the Queens and the Kings.
  • CHANGE IN MIND (Howard Adams): A great routine using cards torn in half and three coins.
  • CHILD’S PLAY (Karl Fulves): Two selected cards appear together while two packets are dealt at the same time.
  • COURTING (Aldo Colombini): Two strong climaxes using the face cards.
  • TRIPLE HUMDINGER (Peter Duffie): Three...

Abhinav Bothra
Self-Working CAAN by Abhinav Bothra

An effortless CAAN that the audience performs for themselves.

Features:

  • You never touch the deck of cards.
  • Can be done Close-up, Parlour or on Stage
A participant holds out the fingers of both their hands and drops down any number of fingers. The fingers left extended (say 2 and 1) forms the number (they get to choose 2 & 1 becomes 21 or 12) The participant opens up the pack of playing cards, deals the cards down (face up or face down doesn't matter). The card at their number matches the card you predicted (written on a paper before performance)

Honest Note: While you don't touch...

A deck gets divided into 2 halves of 26 cards each. Spades and Hearts and Clubs and Diamonds. In short, both halves have ace to king of both red and black colours.

Graham Hey
Searching for Elvis by Graham Hey

This self-working effect is Graham's feature in the close-up spot of his cruise ship cabaret act. Plays big. Is easy to do. Comes with gags and Graham's full presentation. And it includes the bonus effect: Movie Star Madness.

The Elvis card is lost somewhere in the deck. A deck of blue cards is shown then cut into two piles. The spectator selects a pile, and then deals the cards face up onto the table - they are told to stop when they are happy. All the other cards are turned over and they are blue-backed. But - there was one red-backed card in the deck ... the spectator dealt the cards...

Nick Conticello
Reveries by Nick Conticello

Here we offer three new approaches to Bob Hummer's classic Mindreader's Dream effect. A spectator merely thinks of a card and out of the performer's view deals some cards to impress the card on the subject's unconscious mind. The dealt cards are lost in the pack. The performer asks the spectator some questions, studies the subject's nonverbal responses, and slowly but surely names the thought-of card.

One method requires a small stack, the other two are impromptu. All use ordinary cards and no sleights. The deck need not be complete.

This item will be of interest to mentalists and card...

Biagio Fasano
Remote Couples ESPeriment by Biagio Fasano

This is a new mentalism effect, that can be performed also at distance (i.e. with Zoom, Skype or Google Meet), in which the illusionist will always be able to guess the ESP symbol shown on a pair of cards kept covered by the spectator's hands, following a series of random shuffles and flipping of the cards.

Key Points:

  1. Completely "hands-off"
  2. Easy and ideal to perform in any situation, including a phone call or a video chat (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.)
  3. The performer does not need to see the cards until the end of the experiment
  4. The cards are not marked in any way, the spectator can even...

Renzo Grosso
Remote Close Up 4 by Renzo Grosso

The effects on the phone have become, for me, almost an obsession. I have, for now, collected more than 100 and, slowly, I am proposing them with these publications. Some draw inspiration from real "pearls" of great artists, which I allowed myself to face, with extreme humility, developing them with a new setting, sometimes adding some interesting details. Others are a little older, even centuries, maybe even well known, but they are often "disruptive" as never before. I share them with pleasure.

In this booklet you will find:

I WILL FIND YOUR CARD
It is said that the cards think to...

Renzo Grosso
Remote Close Up 3 by Renzo Grosso

The effect on the phone has always intrigued me: you cannot arrange the cards, nor do you see them, the deck is that of the spectator, you cannot touch it or see it. Then there is an insurmountable difficulty: you have to explain each operation in a simple, step-by-step way and, not being able to visually check, you are forced to prepare, in the presentation, control "stakes"; all this, however, provided that your description is perfect and, at the same time, flawless, without danger of misunderstanding.

And then there is the "revelation" mode: it can only be presented as an effect of mentalism,...

Renzo Grosso
Remote Close Up 2 by Renzo Grosso

Due to the "fault" of the lockdown, I began to collect effects to present on the phone to my friends, using their deck of cards or the objects at their disposal, without any possibility for me to intervene, except by carefully checking the game instructions. Many are the mathematical principles used, some "old" of a few centuries, others revised over time, others, contemporary, just as original. I tried, for each of them, to invent a story, a suitable setting, which was unique and original, fantasy, and which was consistent with the operations that performer and spectator were going to perform,...

Remote Close Up 18: Abbott's Ten Principle by Renzo Grosso

THE ABBOTT'S TEN PRINCIPLE: The principle, generally called Abbott's Ten by the Americans, actually dates back to an Italian manuscript about five hundred years ago (Mariano Tomatis - Messmer in pills - La Lollins and the magic of the sixteenth century - Episode 206).

This publication first describes the standard 10-card routine; I then analyzed the possibility of doing it with a different number of cards, even with tarot cards, and I studied the possibility of doing it in all conditions: in close up, on stage (two versions, one with billets and the other with the Tarot) and even on the...

Renzo Grosso
Remote Close Up 1 by Renzo Grosso

During the first lockdown period, we lived separated from the world, connected to friends only with the phone; to please my friends I started looking for effects to be presented remotely to people connected, without phone videoconferencing, so that they can use their deck of cards or objects at their disposal, without my possibility to operate, except by checking the game instructions.

I searched for automatic effects and found principles that in some cases were a few centuries old; others, more recent, often conceived by famous and illustrious names; many of these, when they were published...

If you think that the pandemic is limiting your performance opportunities, you'll especially like Scarne's Phone Miracle. All you need is a spectator with a smartphone or landline. And, unlike virtually every...

Nick Conticello
Pyramid Prophecies by Nick Conticello

From the introduction:

This ebook is a bit of a departure for me. The material is mathematical, but it need not be performed with playing cards. It can be performed with pencil and paper close-up, or with a blackboard or a dry-erase white board in platform or stage settings. Thus it can be employed in situations when the use of playing cards would be inappropriate. However, I will describe these effects with playing cards as that is how I use them.

The basic idea is that the performer predicts the sum of a seemingly random array of cards or numbers. The spectator has quite a bit of control...

Mark Leveridge
Pure Cards Across by Mark Leveridge

Two sets of 10 cards are counted out fairly and openly onto a spectator's hand before being dropped into two glass tumblers where they can be clearly seen. One at a time three cards are invisibly moved from one glass to the other, and when the piles are counted back onto the spectator's hand again, the first glass only contains 7 cards and the other 13.

This is the classic cards across effect using a method that is completely move and sleight free. Everything happens at fingertips and there is no palming required, nor any special counts. Designed for a close-up or intimate parlour show,...

Psychic Self by Dale A. Hildebrandt

Psychic Self is a three-phase card routine wherein you NEVER touch the deck. The deck is borrowed and shuffled multiple times. Yet, the routine is entirely self-working and will work the majority of the time. No risk; no reward. Yes, there is a chance of one of the phases not working; and even lower chance that none of the routine will work. There is a simple scripting for why one or all the phases did not work. The majority of time, you will have a three-phase miracle routine.

The scripting of the routine is what really sells each individual effect. The methods are essentially the effect...
